Genie Access and Microlatch bring biometric technology to Intersec 2013

Genie Access will be joining Microlatch on their stand at Intersec in January 2013 where  we will showcase a fantastic selection of innovative products including the latest in individual biometric technology; the Biocard8. Proximity cards are used throughout the world to control the access to restricted areas but there are many limitations to using these that can make an expensive high tech system redundant. A prime example is card cloning; this can be carried out easily when in the vicinity of a person that has a card worn around their neck or clipped to a belt. All data can be captured from the card at a close distance allowing it to be copied onto a blank proximity card and used to gain access. Biocard8 is different. Only the assigned users can activate the device with their fingerprint and without that the card is inactive and therefore the data cannot be copied or accessed. There are many other benefits to this product so please do come and talk to us and learn more about what makes Biocard8 a unique and secure improvement to your existing security system. Visit us to see live product demonstrations on Stand S2-502C from January 15th – 17th, 2013 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Avigilon’s high-definition surveillance keeps students safe in Iowa

Fort Dodge Community School District Keeps Students Safe with Avigilon High-Definition Video Surveillance Solutions. District successfully saved costs by leveraging existing network infrastructure and reduced IT maintenance time by 100 percent  Avigilon, a leader in high-definition (HD) and megapixel video surveillance solutions, today announced that Fort Dodge Community School District (FDCSD) in Iowa has deployed the Avigilon high-definition surveillance system to better protect students and staff and prevent incidents of vandalism, robbery, and student misconduct. The Avigilon high-definition surveillance system was chosen because it delivers superior image resolution, cost-effective scalability, and advanced management functionality while running on the district’s existing network. The district can also cost-effectively expand the Avigilon high-definition surveillance system by simply adding cameras at new locations and centrally managing them over the network. Due to the system’s ease of use and reliability, the IT team has reduced maintenance time by 100 percent. “The quality of the Avigilon high-definition surveillance system is top notch – from the high-definition cameras to the compression technology used to deliver high resolution images across our network to the software that facilitates management,” said Jeremy Pearson, Supervisor of IT at FDCSD. “The other products we looked at do not deliver the image quality, advanced features, or cost-effective scalability we need to gradually deploy the system district-wide. Avigilon does.” High school administrators, a school resource officer, the attendance counselor, and Pearson himself use the Avigilon Control Center network video management software (NVMS) with High-Definition Stream Management™ (HDSM) technology to manage the system from their workstations. FDCSD installed Avigilon HD 3 MP and 5 MP cameras at Fort Dodge Senior High School in the main entrances and hallways, and the cafeteria. In the school’s gymnasium the district also installed two Avigilon HD 8 MP 180˚ Panoramic Dome Cameras. FDCSD also deployed Avigilon analog video encoders to leverage its existing analog cameras within the school. At the main district office FDCSD installed several Avigilon HD 3 MP cameras to monitor all main entrances and purchased an Avigilon Network Video Recorder (NVR) to store up to 30 days of continuous surveillance video. FDCSD is building a new middle school that will include 70 Avigilon HD cameras and two Avigilon NVRs and plans to deploy the Avigilon high-definition surveillance system district-wide over time. The district also plans to leverage Avigilon Control Center Mobile to enable law enforcement officials and other key stakeholders to view live and recorded images wirelessly from anywhere on the network. By deploying the Avigilon high-definition surveillance system, FDCSD can leverage its current network infrastructure without straining bandwidth or storage, saving significantly on infrastructure costs. The district has also saved significantly on installation and support costs because it can install, manage, and upgrade the system in-house due to its ease-of-use, superior functionality, and reliability. “Committed to delivering the best education possible, Fort Dodge Community School District is constantly updating its programs and modernizing facilities to provide the safest and most stimulating learning environment possible,” said Keith Marett, vice president of marketing and communications at Avigilon. “By deploying the Avigilon high-definition surveillance system, the school district has invested in an advanced, high-definition surveillance solution that better protects students and staff.” Contact www.avigilon.com

Winsted to unveil latest EnVision console at Intersec 2013

Leading control room furniture manufacture Winsted is returning to Intersec in January 2013 and will be exhibiting its brand new EnVision Command Control at the show.  Visitors can see EnVisions’s range of operational benefits first-hand on Winsted’s stand no. S2-511C during the three day event. EnVision is Winsted’s next-generation console, built for today’s control room technology. Its radical new modular design blends form and function in an ergonomically optimised single, double or triple tier configuration.  Whatever the format, operator sight lines and viewing angles are maximised, while staff remain comfortable and productive. BSIA members support equality and diversity in the security industry

Research undertaken by the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) has revealed that BSIA members consider the security industry to be a viable career option for those with a disability. This follows a recent survey launched to gauge the industry’s perceptions of equality and diversity, coinciding with the International Day of Disabled People, which aspires to raise awareness about disability issues, celebrated annually today. According to statistics from the Office of Disability Issues, the Labour Force Survey discovered that those with a disability are less likely to be in employment than those without. The survey revealed that in 2012, 46.3% of disabled people are in employment compared to the substantially higher 76.2% of non-disabled people. However, this employment gap has decreased over the years, narrowing by 5.8% since 2002.[1] BSIA survey results showed that members are keen to raise awareness regarding the career paths available within the security industry. While members do feel that there are a wide range of opportunities, over 70% of those surveyed felt that there is not enough awareness amongst people regarding diversity and disability within the industry. However, despite this lack of awareness, 62.3% of respondents revealed that their company does currently employ someone with a disability and 96.2% considered the management team of their organisation to take equality, diversity and inclusion seriously in the way they behave and talk. 41.5% of survey respondents thought that the main challenge those with a disability face when finding employment is access to suitable vacancies, with 34% believing that it could be due to a lack of understanding of the roles available within the security industry. Remploy, which provides specialist employment services to disabled and disadvantaged people, is campaigning to ‘bridge the gap’ between employment rates by helping disabled people to  transform their lives through sustainable employment opportunities. One of its successes has in fact been within the private security industry, when Remploy supported Graham Sorley into work as a security officer for BSIA member G4S Secure Solutions. Graham had spent almost ten years in the army, but was medically discharged in 2010 due to debilitating arthritis in his left arm. Graham was referred to Remploy by the Career Transition Partnership  and was urged to apply for a position with G4S. Tom Brown, an Employment Adviser at Remploy, felt that Graham’s military background would make him an ideal candidate for a security role, particularly as he had experience with being part of a “disciplined, well honed team often working in difficult conditions.” Graham became a security officer at Edinburgh Airport and is grateful for the support that Remploy offered him. “I was worried because I wasn’t sure I was fit enough for security work due to my arthritis. But I love what I am doing now and I can’t thank Remploy enough for their support.” Contact www.bsia.co.uk
