With just over a month to go before the new PD6662 scheme is enforced, affecting manufacturers and installers of intruder and hold-up alarm systems, the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) is holding a series of drop-in surgeries on its stand at IFSEC International 2012 (14 – 17 May, Birmingham NEC, Hall 4, Stand C130) to help security professionals with last-minute preparations for the forthcoming transition.

BSIA Technical Manager, David Wilkinson, comments: “Despite a two-year changeover period following the scheme’s publication in May 2010, many manufacturers and installers are still unsure of how the new PD6662 scheme will affect their business operations, and what they need to do to prepare.”

To provide essential guidance to IFSEC delegates on a one-to-one basis, David and the rest of the BSIA’s Technical team have set aside dedicated time slots each day to operate a ‘drop-in’ style surgery to answer questions on the key differences between the old scheme and the new.

David explains: “One of the most important new standards included in the scheme is BS8243, which will replace DD243 going forward, and there are numerous important differences between DD243 and BS8243, including the inclusion of hold-up alarm confirmation for the first time.”

These PD6662 surgeries follow on from a series of exclusive presentations delivered to BSIA members at various venues across the UK earlier this year, which left 100% of members feeling ‘better informed’ about the marketplace for PD6662.

The BSIA is at the forefront of standards development and represents the UK security industry on International, European and British Standards committees. This representation allows members to have a voice on how their industry develops. Where the industry lacks standards, the Association’s members develop their own codes of practice, which are often then used by the British Standards Institute (BSI) as a benchmark for the wider industry.

PD6662 surgeries are planned for the following times:

Monday 14th May                           14:00 – 15:00

Tuesday 15th May                           14:00 – 15:00

Wednesday 16th May                    10:30 – 11:30

Thursday 17th May                         13:00 – 14:00

Anybody interested in finding out more about the transition between PD6662 schemes can simply visit the BSIA’s stand, C30, in Hall 4 of the NEC at IFSEC 2012.
