Compromising an exciting line-up of guest speakers and a lively exhibition featuring demonstrations and information from leading companies in the industry, the ever-popular event welcomed over 80 attendees to the West Midlands venue.

Section Chairman Anthony Pearlgood opened the conference and spoke about the section’s growth, citing an increased demand for quality, and the essential nature of information destruction for businesses and public sector organisations.

The section’s first official promotional video was showcased to start the day. The video, first launched at IFSEC 2013, emphasises the vital role that professional information destruction plays in the modern world.

The speaker itinerary for the day started with a presentation by Mark Wormald, one of the leading sales trainers in the country. He used his 20-years’ experience to help advise attendees how to win new business and make sales to customers.

Ranjit Singh Baxi, founder and chairman of J and H Sales (International) and president of the paper division of the Bureau of International Recycling, was next to take to the microphone. He spoke to eager listeners about recycled waste paper in the modern society and the future of the industry.

Finally, Martin Hutchins, founder of the Professional Academy, discussed effective leadership and management techniques to help industry professionals develop staff and grow their organisations.

To round off the day, a Question-and-Answer session was chaired by Pearlgood. The panel compromised Reuben Bolton from Bolton Brothers, Debra Smith from Veolia Environmental Services, and Stewart Bowles of PHS Datashred.

A lively debate saw the experts discuss issues including the need for extra enforcement, changes to the data protection act, opportunities in the SME sector and also the prospects in growing markets such as India and China.
