CCTV Image magazine issue 44 - Summer 2011

The latest issue of CCTV Image is out and you can read it here, online. In this issue, we look at CCTV systems saving money in a number of different ways including sharing services, reducing staff, reducing transmission costs and taking on third-party contracts.

CCTV Image is the official magazine of the CCTV User Group and strives to tell the stories of how CCTV systems are operated and also to bring you information about technology that is changing and improving CCTV.

In this issue:

  • An interview with the new chairman of the CCTV User Group. As a long serving CCTV manager at Slough Council, Peter Webster is well placed to comment on the evolving face of CCTV including the impact of budget cuts, advice to fellow managers on saving money, controversial views on IP CCTV and his views on the National CCTV Strategy and regulation in general.
  • In another of our Rooms with a View, we profile Medway Control Centre which has recently linked up with Swale Borough Council to provide its CCTV monitoring service. It shows how the clever use of technology can save you money by getting more value out of your existing staff.
  • And we have coverage of the 2011 CCTV User Group conference including presentations by the interim CCTV regulator, the director of transition at the Security Industry Authority and a representative from the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) talking about the Protection of Freedoms Bill.
  • We also have coverage from the conference of a unique study into the effectiveness of CCTV which yields some encouraging results.
  • We also hear from Cath Bannister from Mansfield District Council on how they are saving money and from Kate Rennicks of Metronet about the costs of wireless technology.
  • And as always, we have Martin Gill with the latest on his CCTV and crime research and Simon Lambert discussing 360-degree panoramic cameras: What exactly are they good for?
