Cybercrime arrests due within weeks following aggressive FBI investigation

The FBI is promising many arrests of cyber criminals in coming weeks.

Multiple arrests and indictments will occur within weeks, following a more aggressive approach to cybercrime and cyber criminals, according to the FBI.

The FBI’s Executive Assistant Director of the Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch – Robert Anderson – made the disclosure at the Reuters Cybersecurity Summit in Washington.

He said: “There is a philosophy change. If you are going to attack Americans, we are going to hold you accountable. If we can reach out and touch you, we are going to reach out and touch you.”

Anderson took on his current role in March and said that the FBI would take a more aggressive approach to pursuing and prosecuting cybercrime.

In a departure from the FBI’s previous approach, he vowed to arrest more hackers rather than turn them into conduits of information about the hacker underground.

The leader of the LulzSec hackers group, Hector Monsegur, has enjoyed a degree of leniency on several occasions in exchange for helping the US government gain access to foreign targets.
