Deloitte and BT contracted as suppliers for National Enabling Programmes

Deloitte and BT have been awarded contracts to help deliver the National Enabling Programmes (NEP) initiative for Policing, including the National Management Centre (NMC). Working with police forces across England and Wales, these two programmes will reportedly help Police and Crime Commissioners buy, manage and exploit ICT more effectively.

The NEP sees investment of around £100 million in modernising and introducing a degree of consistency across Policing’s IT systems. This will include the introduction of cloud-based services and improved cyber security technologies.

“The NEP is a key enabling tool that will deliver a foundational change within Policing as we exploit new ICT resources in a unified way across our Forces,” said Wayne Parkes, Programme Director, NEP. “This ‘joined up thinking’ will facilitate a radical change in both what the police do and how the public interact with us.”

This digital transformation will allow Police Forces across the country to collaborate more effectively, better engage with citizens and protect sensitive data from rising levels of cyber-crime. By using the latest technology, Police Forces will become more effective to public safety needs while meeting the demands of their agile workforce, and all at a reduced overall cost.

“During 2017 and 2018 the NEP team has worked very successfully with a handful of Forces to trial the implementation of these new technologies and business models,” Ian Dyson, Commissioner City of London Police. “Now with the Delivery Partners, Deloitte and BT in place, we can begin the planned roll out to deliver and embed these changes across forces.”

Police Forces will also have access to a centre of cyber excellence with the ability to identify, manage and respond to internal and external cyber threats, while enhancing legislative compliance. This facility will reportedly protect all Forces from cyber-attacks, keeping sensitive data safe as each local Force moves their applications into the Microsoft Azure Cloud. A dedicated team of cyber security professionals will detect, protect, monitor and respond to cyber threats against the Police’s ICT estate.

“Deloitte is delighted to have been awarded the role of the Client Side Delivery Partner for the NEP,”  said Bill Hall, Partner, Deloitte. “We look forward to working with Wayne Parkes and his team to ensure the success of this ambitious programme.”
