Hammersmith and Fulham launched its first CCTV system back in 1998 with just 14 cameras. The system now has more than 800 cameras comprising a mixture of fixed and PTZ cameras used to cover town centres and housing estates.
Following expansion of Stamford Bridge and the Westfield Shopping Centre the council secured investment to fund a refresh of their control room CCTV system equipment.
Hammersmith and Fulham Council’s vision for the project was to create a control room which offered interoperability to integrate its many different systems, hybrid capability to incorporate its analogue systems and scalability to meet future expansion plans and protect its investment by choosing a totally open video management software platform.
After experiencing Meyertech’s ZoneVu Series 3 and 328 Video Matrices over the last two years Hammersmith and Fulham had no hesitation in choosing a Meyertech Video Management Software (VMS) solution to realise its vision.
With the installation of Meyertech’s FUSION-Core-Solar VMS Hammersmith & Fulham now has a hybrid corporate class ONVIF open platform management system which is designed to meet
the needs of the council’s public space responsibilities both now and in the future.
Meyertech’s ONVIF conformant FUSION-Core-Solar was the leading choice!
The success of the Hammersmith and Fulham approach can be measured against the boroughs crime statistics which have been falling consistently. Violent crime, burglary, theft from vehicles and bike thefts have all gone down.
The latest MET police figures show that Hammersmith and Fulham is safer than ever before with recent statistics showing the lowest crime figure ever recorded for the borough.
CCTV Control Room Manager for Hammersmith and Fulham, Andrew Stocker confirmed:
“We have seen incidents on specific crimes falling by as much as 10%. That is despite the population increasing consistently over the same period.”
Andrew Stocker continued: “Some statistics have fallen so much that they have affected London’s crime statistics as a whole.”
The ONVIF factor
When choosing its new VMS Hammersmith & Fulham council wanted to be safe in the knowledge that its investment is protected going forward. Meyertech satisfied this requirement by explaining the advantages of an ONVIF based VMS which enables end users to benefit from increased flexibility and greater freedom of choice as they can select interoperable products from a variety of different brands that comply with the standard. In short ONVIF conformant products result in fewer integration costs, and allow end-users to choose the most suitable combination of IP-based physical security products for their specific needs, regardless of vendor.

Speaking about the project Senior Projects Manager for Meyertech, Phillip Champlin had this to say:
“The choice of upgrade for Hammersmith and Fulham Council CCTV came down to some key points. The councils remit was to provide a system that would be interoperable, flexible, scalable and cutting edge. Our ONVIF conformant Fusion-Core-Solar VMS meets and exceeds all of these requirements.”
