HID Global publishes Environment Performance Reporting for its Access Control Readers

News Highlights:

• HID Global follows parent company ASSA ABLOY in using internationally recognised Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) to report on the sustainable qualities of its iCLASS SE and pivCLASS readers.

• EPDs tell each product’s lifecycle story in areas including global warming, ozone depletion, water pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions.

• Company is first access control supplier to offer EPDs for its products, reinforcing the company’s broad-based commitment to sustainability stewardship and environmental responsibility.

HID Global®, a worldwide leader in secure identity solutions, announced it has joined parent company ASSA ABLOY in reporting the environmental performance of its access control readers using internationally recognised Environmental Product Declarations (EPD®s). The company has released EPDs for most of its iCLASS SE® door readers and many of its pivCLASS® readers, providing a transparent view of the products’ sustainable qualities and environmental repercussions so that customers can make more informed purchase decisions.

“As the first access control company to initiate EPD reporting for its products, we are providing customers with a new set of tools to educate their own environmentally-conscious customers while also adding new value to our Genuine HID® solutions,” said Kevin Teehan, Vice President of Strategic Services and Chief Compliance Officer with HID Global. “We chose our award-winning, flagship iCLASS SE and pivCLASS door readers to launch this new initiative, and we plan to extend the practice to a broader range of products in the near future.”

In addition to assisting with product purchase decisions, HID Global’s EPDs can also be used for public procurement and building assessment activities, and to provide environmental performance validation for such programs as U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED Platinum accreditation. The company has instituted EPD reporting as part of a broader corporate and cultural commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility that has earned it numerous awards from customers and business organisations. HID Global’s extensive list of sustainability initiatives are focused on minimising its carbon footprint, reducing operating costs, and creating green products and solutions for its customers.

An EPD is an independently verified and registered document that communicates transparent and comparable information about the lifecycle environmental impact of products. The HID Global EPDs are registered by both the Institut Bauen und Umwelt (IBU) and UL organisations. These programmes’ goals are to help and support organisations to communicate the environmental performance of their products (goods and services) in a credible and understandable way.
