Lumidigm partners with i-Evo to create biometric access control readers

I-Evo IP65 robust fingerprint access control readers read through snow, cold, water, dust, oil, creams and gloves.

Lumidigm today announced that i-Evo (Newcastle upon Tyne, UK) is using the company’s multi-spectral imaging sensors to produce a line of extremely versatile fingerprint readers that can be used both indoors and outdoors, including in extremely harsh environments that render most biometric readers inoperable.  The i-Evo team has kept the design of the biometric fingerprint readers simple, resulting in units that are small, require minimal training, are easy to install and cost less.  They are aesthetically pleasing, easy to use, vandal-resistant and available in a range of colors.  They are “plug-and-play” installable, integrating easily with existing card and fob systems.

“Biometrics has proven time and time again to overcome all of the security issues found with card and fob systems,” explains Shaun Oakes, managing director of i-Evo.  “However, the cost of biometric systems coupled with their reliability issues has, until now, curtailed profits and industry growth. Lumidigm’s multi-spectral imaging sensors eradicate these issues to provide us with a quick, simple and cost-effective solution for our integrators to promote to their users.”

“Probably nothing better exemplifies how our multi-spectral imaging fingerprint sensors complement i-Evo’s other developments and help Ievo customers get reliable reads than a video that Ievo has on their website,” emphasizes Bill Spence, Lumidigm vice president of transaction services.  “It demonstrates how their readers continue to successfully operate submerged in snow or under water, working in -20 C degrees, reading through layers of cream, oil and dust, matching fingerprints within latex gloves and working while fingers are wet.,”

Lumidigm multispectral fingerprint sensors capture fingerprint data beneath the surface of the skin so that dryness or even damaged or worn fingers create no problems for reliable reads.  Using multiple wavelengths of light and advanced polarization techniques to extract unique fingerprint characteristics from both the surface and subsurface of the skin, Lumidigm’s sensors provide results that are more consistent, more inclusive and more tamper resistant than conventional biometric readers.

i-Evo biometric readers are employed by a variety of customers, including schools, corporate buildings, universities, hospitals, apartments, perimeter control, construction sites, office blocks and others throughout Europe and beyond.
