Luminite Electronics, manufacturer of Genesis wireless PIR detector systems, has partnered expert security distributor QED to launch the ‘Luminite Approved Installer Programme’.

Installation companies wishing to qualify for the programme must first attend a one day training course at QED’s site in Preston, Lancashire. The course covers all aspects of wireless detector installation and operation, including how to position detectors to minimise false alarms.

“The course focuses on the many installer benefits wireless detectors offer”, explains QED Product Development Director, Matt Philp. “Fast, simple and reliable installation is key. We have also included how to perimeter-mount the PIRs and face them inwards. This is because positioning plays such an important role in reducing false alarms from detection overspill, foliage movement and sunlight reflection.

“PIR management is also explained. Critical alarms from intrusion detection, anti-shock and anti-cloaking can be set up to initiate a site response or key holder notification. Whereas alerts for low PIR battery and weak wireless signal strength can be used to instigate a maintenance visit – potentially improving installers’ service levels. Mapping multiple PIR detectors to each video channel and the integration and operation opportunities that the new IP connectivity enables are also explained.

“Lastly, we cover the Walk Test instrument, which Luminite produces to allow installers to verify Genesis PIR detection extents, wireless signal strength, lens patterns and remaining battery life as they walk around a site. All these features reassure installers that the system is working correctly before they leave site.”

To attend training for the Luminite Approved Installer Programme, installers pay £99 per company for up to 8 engineers. On completion, each company receives preferential pricing and vouchers worth £150. Full technical support is provided by QED.

Graham Creek, Managing Director of Luminite, added, “Luminite and QED have worked together for over 15 years on PIR detection, gaining significant experience in site planning and integration. This invaluable experience is shared with installers on the course.”
