S2S Group has announced that it is now a Champion of Data Privacy Day (DPD), held annually on 28 January. As a DPD Champion, S2S recognises and supports the principle that organisations, businesses and government all share the responsibility of being conscientious stewards of personal information by respecting privacy, safeguarding data and enabling trust.
Data Privacy Day is an international awareness effort to encourage Internet users to consider the privacy implications of their online actions and motivate all companies to make privacy and data protection a greater priority. S2S Group joins the growing effort among organisations, corporations, educational institutions and government entities globally to raise awareness and educate consumers about how their personal information may be collected, the benefits and risks of sharing personal information as well as the nature and scope of online data usage. Through collaborative efforts and unified, consistent messaging about data privacy, all DPD Champions will work toward the goal of improving consumer consciousness and empowering everyone to safeguard their privacy.
“As experts in the safe removal, destruction and disposal of IT assets and data, we are proud to be champions of Data Protection Day,” said Alan Dukinfield, managing director at S2S Group. “We’re using Data Privacy Day as an opportunity to remind people that your data isn’t dead, until it’s destroyed. No matter what the size of an organisation, the message is the same. Your data is not safe until the hard drive or device containing it is physically destroyed or erased by an accredited company using approved software and providing the relevant certification.
Spearheaded by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), Data Privacy Day began in the United States and Canada in January 2008 as an extension of the Data Protection Day recognition in Europe. The 28 January marks the signing in 1981 of Convention 108, the first legally binding international treaty addressing privacy and data protection.
