Dedicated Securitas employees have collectively clinched a company record of12 regional titles in The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) Security Personnel Awards 2014, which pay tribute to outstanding work of officers over the past 12 months.
The 12 awards won by Securitas staff represents the most scooped by the company, recognising personnel who exemplify extraordinary dedication, loyalty, teamwork, customer service skills, use of technology and bravery.
Spencer Harbron is one of the Securitas award-winners honoured for going the extra mile, within the category of Outstanding Act for the North East. His quick-thinking was tested after a vehicle crashed into a house near Sunderland’s Monkwearmouth hospital, where he was on duty.
Spencer immediately rang the emergency services, and then identifying the gravity of the crash and smelling gas, he forced open the door and pulled the driver, who was slumped over the wheel, to safety. He then entered the property, located an elderly resident upstairs and calmly escorted them to safety.
Securitas officers Gary Douglas and Ajaz Ahmed also scooped an accolade after showcasing excellent vigilance skills when witnessing a male following a woman into toilets in York. Both officers immediately acted to investigate and encountered a woman being sexual assaulted. Although the offender fled the scene, later that month Ajaz recognised the male and contacted the police, instantly resulting in his arrest.
These officers, along with the other Securitas regional winners, will now proceed to the national judging phase of the awards, which will culminate in a glittering awards ceremony held at the BSIA’s annual lunch in London on July 16 2014.
Brian Riis Nielsen, Securitas Country President, said: “It’s fantastic for the commitment and dedication of professionals in this industry to be acknowledged in this way, and we’re obviously thrilled that Securitas officers have dominated the regional awards. We’re proud that our staff across the country go above and beyond in their duties every day, and we wish them the best of luck for the national judging.”
