The Security Institute appoint David Thorp as Managing Director

The Security Institute, the UK’s largest membership body for security professionals, has announced that David Thorp has been appointed as its new Managing Director. This is a newly created role at the Security Institute and working with the Board of Directors, David will take the organisation to the next stage of its development by ensuring that it continues to meet the needs of its growing membership.

David is a commercially-focused professional body director with significant strategy, policy, implementation and P&L experience. He has extensive experience of the strategic development of a membership organisation and the various services and structures required for an organisation granted a Royal Charter. He holds a BA in Law and an MSc in Training and Performance Management and most recently he was Director of Research & Professional Development at The Chartered Institute of Marketing. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Member of the British Institute of Learning and Development.

Security Institute Chairman Emma Shaw commented “The appointment of a Managing Director is a key and strategic decision for the Board of Directors and represents the significant growth and development plans of the Institute . I am absolutely delighted to welcome David to the organisation; 2014 is our 15th year anniversary and during this time the Institute has grown from strength to strength. We have a proud history and a bright future and this is the perfect time to invest in our Head Office capability. David will work alongside our existing team and our volunteer Board of Directors to ensure we continue to deliver the objectives of the organisation and to continue to support our members. Our AGM on the 27th March will give people an early opportunity to meet David.’

I was drawn by the challenge of delivering the ambitious growth plans and I am looking forward to developing and influencing the shape of our sector, as well as supporting our members in their professional career development.
