Smartphone credentialing released for Vicon’s VAX Access Control system

Designer and manufacturer of video surveillance and access control software, Vicon Industries, has introduced mobile credentialing to improve the convenience and simplicity of its VAX Access Control solution.

Allowing VAX customers to present their smartphone instead of cards or fobs to Bluetooth-enabled VAX door readers, users can enter their personal VAX credentials to their custom smartphone ‘wallet’ app.

Facilitating multiple credentials, no additional activation steps are needed such as entry of personal information or Bluetooth linking, instead users can unlock their phone, access the credentials within the app and unlock doors using the button available.

Uniquely linked to each smartphone, credentials cannot be shared or installed across multiple devices and are protected using strong AES encryption, combined with smartphone PINs or biometrics, making them even more secure than traditional smart cards.

Two models of contactless door readers are available; one requires immediate proximity and one with a 15-feet read range. Bluetooth readers can also accommodate traditional RFID access cards, allowing administrators to utilise both types of solutions with employees.

Bret McGowan, Vicon’s V.P. of Sales and Marketing, says, “Access control is as much about convenience as it is security. If a solution isn’t easy for customers to use, doors will remain propped open and the system can’t do its job.

“Our new mobile solution makes it possible for employees to always have their credentials with them, even when they’re not carrying a purse or wallet. It’s another way we are using cutting-edge technology to deliver ‘advanced simplicity’ to the security marketplace.”
