Members of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) were acknowledged for their industry-leading products and services in the prestigious 2013 Security Excellence Awards, with BSIA members triumphing in seven out of eighteen categories.
Presented on 23 October, the awards are organised by UBM Live Security Portfolio in association with IFSECGlobal.com, and took place at the renowned Hilton Hotel on Park Lane with TV comedian Rufus Hound as host. The awards aim to acknowledge and celebrate the security industry’s best practitioners and projects that have achieved the uppermost standards and accomplishments.
Award entries were shortlisted earlier this year and then judged by a panel of independent industry experts based on a set of scrupulous criteria individual to each of the eighteen categories.
The achievements of BSIA members were recognised across fifteen categories during the judging process, and seven received awards.
Corps Security won the ‘Customer Care Initiative of the Year Award’ for their Customer Charter, while Reliance High-Tech walked away with the award for ‘Best Deployment of Lone Worker Technology’ for their Reliance Protect Lone Worker Solution. ‘Event Security Team of the Year’ went to Showsec for their BT London Live Event Security Team.
Winning the award for ‘Security Partnering Initiative of the Year’ were Securitas Security Services and the Avon and Somerset Constabulary/Devon and Cornwall Police for their work on crime scene guarding.

In recognition of the increasingly global focus of the UK’s security market, the BSIA was proud to sponsor the ‘International Achievement Award’, which was won by Westminster Aviation Security Services.
James Kelly, Chief Executive of the BSIA, who attended the event alongside several BSIA staff, commented: “Our congratulations go to all of those members whose dedication to delivering the highest standard of products and services was recognised in last night’s awards. Our members are all committed to the ongoing development of the UK’s private security sector, and I am pleased to see that many members’ contributions to raising standards and developing new technical innovations received official recognition in last night’s awards.”
Commenting on the BSIA’s sponsorship of the International Achievement Award, James added: “In an increasingly international marketplace, UK companies are looking increasingly further afield to grow their business and reach out to a more diverse customer base.
“The BSIA, through its Export Council, is committed to enabling its members to take advantage of international business opportunities, and maintains close links with UKTI and international events including IFSEC’s overseas counterparts. Our sponsorship of last night’s International Achievement Award reinforces our commitment to supporting UK security exporters, and we would like to congratulate Westminster Aviation Security Services on their success.”
