A patented Mul-T-Lock cylinder system has been installed by AIW Key Centre in the Grand Pier at Weston Super Mare in Somerset, to secure the new structure, following its multi million pound rebuild.

The Grand Pier has recently been rebuilt after a fire destroyed the structure of the original pavilion in 2008.   Newly re-opened, the owners were anxious to ensure high security systems were installed to protect the £34 million investment.

Local architectural ironmongers and locksmiths, AIW Key Centre, recommended a high security cylinder range from Mul-T-Lock, allowing the owners to retain and extend an existing master key system whilst benefiting from the extra security features available.

Says Ian Lane of the AIW Key Centre: “A significant investment has been made in rebuilding the iconic pier following a devastating fire, and the owners were very determined to ensure the highest specification for all aspects of security at the new site.”

The cylinder system has a unique telescopic pin tumbler mechanism using external and internal pins. The flexible design allows for additions to any suite but keys can only be cut on production of the Mul-T-Lock key registration card to ensure tight control of key duplication.

Ian continued: “The system we selected was able to cope with the complicated master key system by implementing side and back pins.  It also works with a range of cylinders and other locks which can be integrated into the suite for added convenience without compromising on security.”

Matt Rice, Marketing Manager at Mul-T-Lock, concluded: “The Pier was an exciting project for us to return, to create a solution that could cope with the master system already in place and also integrate the new areas which needed securing.  The high security cylinder system we chose allows the owners control over its complete protection, both now and in the future.”
