Schneider Electric employee Stan Rowland has achieved a world first, becoming the first person to attain a Professional Recognition Award from City and Guilds.

Rowland works as a training consultant at energy management specialists Schneider Electric. He has been awarded a level 7 for Professional Recognition in Engineering Management plus a City and Guilds Membership Award (PRA) and achieved the highest of four levels available.

PRAs are a vocational qualification allowing candidates to succeed through the submission of evidence gathered through their work experience. They recognise ability and expertise in a vocational context and have been identified as important for workplace success.

The PRAs offer opportunities for continuous professional development and Catherine Bush, head of corporate affairs at City and Guilds, hailed Rowland as an “inspiration to others” through his dedication and passion for helping others with their development.

Rowland said: “I’m really thrilled to be the first person to go through the process and to achieve this accolade. From my role as a trainer and previous electrical engineering posts, I have been able to draw on a wide range of experiences, which has certainly helped me through the process.

“I only hope that through my achievement I can encourage others to follow suit, to gain their own external endorsement for their own achievements and then go on to encourage more people to follow suit.”
