West African Cyber Security Summit confirmed

The West African Cyber Security Summit (WACSS) has been confirmed to take place on the 21 March 2018 alongside Securex West Africa at the Landmark Centre in Lagos, Nigeria. Six of the world’s fastest growing cyber security economies can be found in Africa, including Nigeria. Cybercrime is a rapidly growing problem affecting Africa, fuelled by the high levels of poverty as it’s relatively easy to carry out and the lack of legal policies to prevent and prosecute perpetrators if, and when, they are caught makes it all the more attractive to criminals. This increase has driven the market demand for cyber security solutions in recent years, with Nigeria at the epicentre of it all. According to recent reports, the federal government predicted the annual cost of cyber crime in Nigeria to be around 0.08% of the country’s overall GDP, which is an estimated N127 billion. To best tackle this wave of criminality, government officials and businesses alike need to be educated as to sophisticated solutions and how to implement them. The West African Cyber Security Summit (WACSS) is the ultimate platform to learn about essential market developments, key trends, cutting-edge technology and to discuss strategies to address the latest risks and threats facing the industry. 2017’s inaugural edition of WACSS brought together key individuals from leading organisations and government agencies. Among those in attendance were KPMG, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ernst & Young, G3, CSEAN, Interpol and many more. This invitation-only summit will welcome 150 senior cyber security representatives from both the private and public sector, all eager to be at the forefront of innovation in the industry. With the full interactive programme yet to be announced, organisers have divulged several key themes that this year’s Summit will follow. ASSA ABLOY Security Doors makes investment in new Salvagnini technology

ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, a UK division of ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions, has invested in a number of new technologies at its Lisburn manufacturing plant in Northern Ireland. Two new Salvagnini systems are set to help enhance the site’s manufacturing capabilities, including improved lead times, increased productivity and reduced environmental impact. The investment includes the acquisition of a Salvagnini P4lean-3216 panel bender, to replace an existing older model, and a Salvagnini L1X-30 fibre laser system. The new panel bender will enable the organisation’s SMARTform technology to fold doors more accurately and quickly, while its MAC 2.0 software ensures folding results remain at a consistently high standard. The software quickly helps identify any potential issues with a door during the manufacturing process. The panel bender will be able to process 90 per cent of the organisation’s total door range. Meanwhile, the new fibre laser system – due to be installed in December – offers the highest standard in industrial laser cutting, combining high speed sheet metal processing with a precise cut quality. Having been awarded the ISO 14001 accreditation for environmental management earlier this year, the new investment further contributes to this objective. Consumption of electricity and oil is reduced with the new Salvagnini systems, resulting in lower running costs too. Neil Chambers, Production Manager at ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, said: “The new system has allowed us to streamline production by improving areas and removing some unwanted processes that were labour intensive and costly. The move reflects our commitment to improving operational efficiencies while investing in sustainable technology. “In the near future, we believe these new technologies will positively impact on lead times, product design and overall product quality.” For more information on ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, please visit www.assaabloy.co.uk/Security-Doors.
