You’ll hear how Installers and End Users can get closer to Seagate and these Alliance Partners, and prepare themselves for the best-in-class solutions for surveillance for both today, and tomorrow. The Webinar will be an easy going, round-the-table type discussion between the Alliance Partners. Register for FREE here: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/9098545995423446029  Seagate, Axis Communications and Milestone are all key players in the security marketplace, how are you best positioned to guide and inform the industry? From a Seagate perspective – Seagate, is a market leader in storage for over 40 years, a market leader, which is important. What does it mean to be a leader? It means to be a pioneer of technologies, it means bringing products and pioneering tech to market consistently, and building a reputation of reliability. That is who we are, that is the DNA at our core. 15 years ago, we put a microscope over the surveillance market, we saw that there were challenges from a storage perspective that needed to be met; as a storage leader we will meet these challenges, to guide and inform users and installers, on how to get the very best total cost of ownership (TCO) and performance from a storage perspective. As a market leader, it is also about how we’ve done it, and what we offer from a practical point of view. First of all internally, we have our own dedicated surveillance teams, not just from the perspective of a dedicated EMEA Sales team, but also organisationally within the company. We have a surveillance segment which is dedicated to the market, not the product, but the market. We have teams that are focused on business development, product development & operations management. Uniquely, we have set up a surveillance centre of excellence in Hangzhou, where some of the largest camera manufacturers and surveillance manufacturers are based, for long term R&D and testing. We have committed to a dedicated surveillance track within our Seagate Partner Program for installers. There is a specific track for you within the program, where you can get the latest information, access all the Seagate tools and services that we offer, tailored towards surveillance system installers. With our Alliance Partners Axis and Milestone, we sit down and share our long term road maps, our technologies, challenges we face and what we want to achieve together. With the fullest portfolio of surveillance devices and solutions, we can provide insight and guidance to SMBs and Enterprises looking to scale in their markets. As an example, we have our SkyHawk and SkyHawk AI (artificial intelligence) hard drives that include complimentary Rescue Services for SMBs, for enterprise scale solutions, our Exos hard drives feature Seagate Secure, featuring ADAPT erasure coding to provide best in class, encrypted large scale data sets with the fasted data recovery times, which are 90% faster than RAID configurations. Why is there a need for more robust, scalable storage architecture? Intrinsic to the surveillance industry, is the exponential growth of data creation, which is part and parcel of the surveillance industry. Cameras are more prolific, and produce more data. Those cameras, in their own technology, are delivering higher resolution in both video and audio, resulting in more data. Our EDS solutions come into their own on 500+ camera networks. The technology follows the development of these devices, as we see the real world requirements for AI, the meta data that is being created by cameras, the machine learning where cameras are looking at data and creating data about data, in order to learn patterns on behaviours and identify abnormalities. These trends from the growing requirement for storage that is able to scale, with the need for architecture to deliver scalability with the camera technology and the data demands. Use cases are no longer static, the network grows and expands, that’s today’s norm and that is why data needs to be recorded robustly, encrypted and secured, with the information captured at the device end, being recorded at the storage end. In your opinion, what are the four main technological innovations prevalent today? Artificial Intelligence (AI) – The technology has significantly grown in relevancy and is now a business requirement for a number of verticals to enable high level decision making. With our EDS systems today, they are best placed to manage AI and super-fast streaming with the technology that we have, able to get that data onto the disc, using special algorithms that we have, and ASIC controllers which embed in our EDS systems. Analysing hours and hours of data through machine learning and using AI technology, we can identify what is happening with the data we’re collecting, creating a real benefit to the industry. Connected devices – With IOT the cloud. We’re having cameras that are connected over large areas of deployment, for stadiums, shopping centres, cities, airports… not just cameras, but lots of kinds of different sensors. These are controlled and managed by a centralised VMS, for example Milestone, who will talk about XProtect during the webinar, and how they’re able to manage multiple sensors and pool and point everything together into centralised storage. This is a major technological innovation that enables better decision-making processes and has much greater capabilities when your devices are connected with your access control, for example traffic control management within Smart Cities. Vertical solutions – We are finding new use cases for technologies we already have, identifying specific solutions for emerging industry

Beyond Identity and Distology announce partnership

Beyond Identity, the Passwordless identity management provider has formed a strategic partnership with Distology to distribute Beyond Identity’s solutions through its extensive network of IT resellers and MSSPs. Beyond Identity’s secure authentication stops credential-based attacks and eliminates the risk and friction of passwords. The company’s innovative approach replaces passwords with asymmetric cryptography, the same proven, secure, and scalable technology used to protect trillions of transactions daily across the internet.  Beyond Identity extends the chain of trust established with TLS (modern day SSL) to end users and their devices. The solution enables organisations to leverage the strongest multi-factor authentication possible without requiring users to pick up a second device or enter a one-time code. Customers also gain significant benefits beyond removing passwords. The cloud-native platform ensures each device is appropriately secure before granting access to applications and other resources. Beyond Identity’s advanced authenticator evaluates device security posture during each access request, enabling organisations to enforce risk and compliance policies and require step-up authentication for higher-risk actions. “We are beyond excited to be part of Distology’s best-of-breed cybersecurity portfolio,” said Kurt Johnson, VP Strategy & Business Development at Beyond Identity. “As part of our global expansion, we are strongly committed to selling through channel partners throughout Europe, and consider this strategy to be foundational to our success. Distology’s proven expertise in IT and cybersecurity distribution, and their impressive network of security resellers will help us bring secure, continuous risk-based authentication to new markets at a time when organisations are keenly focused on solutions for securing cloud-based resources and hybrid work environments.” The company was founded by two Silicon Valley legends, Jim Clark and Tom Jermoluk. Chairman Jim Clark is a Silicon Valley icon, having founded several notable technology companies including Silicon Graphics and Netscape. CEO Tom Jermoluk, Jim’s renowned, longtime collaborator, has served as President/COO of Silicon Graphics and Chairman/CEO of @Home Network. The company has secured $105M USD in funding by New Enterprise Associates (NEA), the notable Silicon Valley venture capital firm, and Koch Disruptive Technologies (KDT), the investment arm of one of the largest private companies in the United States. Stephen Rowlands, Sales Director for Distology commented: “We always say that Distology only represents disruptive and best-in-breed solutions, and what we have here is a company that has created the world’s most advanced passwordless identity platform – it’s the very definition of disruptive technology.” “We can all relate to the frustrations caused by inputting passwords and whilst the security around passwords has undergone a transformation in the past 10 years, it’s still not enough.” “Many solutions claim to be passwordless, Beyond Identity have gone that step further to provide a truly passwordless experience that is both simple and effective to use. Thanks to the collaborative nature of the product with other technologies such as Okta, we envisage Beyond Identity’s solution will be hugely popular with our partners and their customers and look forward to working closely with the team.”   To stay up to date on the latest, trends, innovations, people news and company updates within the global security market please register to receive our newsletter here. COVID-19 surge in digital exposes companies to cyber threats

COVID-19 surge in digital interactions has exposed organisations to more cyber security threats, say 76% of enterprise IT leaders …protecting against cyber attacks is a bigger IT budget priority than digital transformation over the next 12 months While nearly two thirds (64 per cent) of IT leaders in large UK firms reveal they have made technology changes during the pandemic to handle greater volumes of interaction on their company websites, social media and other digital channels, the security surrounding customer communications remains a major concern. 76 per cent agree (30 per cent strongly) that the increase in digital interactions triggered by the crisis has exposed organisations to more cyber security threats. The findings come from a survey of 100 technology chiefs in UK firms with 1,000+ employees commissioned by Macro 4, a division of UNICOM® Global. When respondents were asked how technology could improve inbound and outbound customer communications in their organisation, the top answer was ‘adding extra security measures to protect us and our customers when interacting digitally’, chosen by 46 per cent of those questioned. Notably, three years after the GDPR came into force, around one out of three (36 per cent) said they wanted to improve customer communication by ‘improving protection of customer data to enable compliance with regulations such as the GDPR’. The speed with which IT teams had to react may have been one of the reasons why security is an ongoing challenge, with 81 per cent of the IT chiefs agreeing (52 per cent strongly) that technology changes had to be fast-tracked by many organisations during the pandemic. 54 per cent of organisations who made changes to enable more digital interactions with customers feel further investment will be required to fix those solutions for the long term. “Enterprises have acted quickly to meet the additional demand for online interaction during the pandemic, and many have successfully reduced pressure on call centres by extending their digital services. But any digital transformation initiative needs to consider end-to-end security and IT teams will be revisiting those short-term solutions to see how they can be strengthened,” said Jim Allum, Director, Commercial and Technical at Macro 4. “In many cases organisations are dealing with a mix of new customer channels and older back-end applications and information repositories, some of which won’t have strong security and data privacy measures like multi-factor authentication and redaction built in, so they will be considering adding these retrospectively.” Looking ahead, security and compliance were revealed as the top priorities when IT leaders were asked about budget plans over the next 12 months. 65 per cent said that maintaining high levels of security to protect against cyber attacks was a high priority, while 54 per cent pointed to ensuring compliance with industry regulations. These were rated above accelerating digital transformation (49 per cent) and using IT to gain a competitive advantage to support business growth (46 per cent). Notably, despite the possibility of a harsher economic climate as the UK comes out of the pandemic, less than a third (32 per cent) of IT bosses in the UK rate using technology to reduce costs as a high budget priority over the next year. What are IT leaders’ budget priorities over the next 12 months? Maintaining high levels of security against cyber attacks (65%) Ensuring compliance with industry regulations (54%) Accelerating digital transformation (49%) Creating a competitive advantage to help us grow (46%) Increasing resilience to withstand unexpected challenges like the pandemic (37%) Using IT to reduce costs in response to a more challenging economic climate (32%) Enhancing and modernising our existing technology stack 31%)   To stay up to date on the latest, trends, innovations, people news and company updates within the global security market please register to receive our newsletter here.
