Qualys

Qualys launches context XDR

New XDR solution built on the highly scalable Qualys Cloud Platform combines native asset and vulnerability risk context with endpoint telemetry and third-party logs for effective threat detection and response. Qualys, a provider of disruptive cloud-based IT, security and compliance solutions, unveiled Qualys Context XDR, the industry’s first context-aware XDR. Powered by the highly scalable Qualys Cloud Platform, the solution combines rich asset inventory and vulnerability context, network and endpoint telemetry from Qualys sensors, along with high-quality threat intelligence and third-party log data to identify threats quickly and reduce alert fatigue. Protecting environments against an overwhelming and constantly evolving threat landscape is frustrating when detecting and responding to cybersecurity threats using siloed products that provide a narrow view of the attack. Current SIEM and XDR solutions passively and reactively collect disparate, unrelated logs creating an avalanche of notifications that place the burden of correlation and prioritisation on the analyst. Incident response and threat hunting teams need an accurate, comprehensive picture of their attack surface to maintain an effective security, risk, and compliance program. “Attack surface complexity and diversity requires security teams to implement risk assessment strategies that help focus their limited resources on the critical assets most vulnerable to attack,” said Dave Gruber, Principal Analyst for Enterprise Security Group. “Leveraging a single agent, the Qualys platform combines security risk posture data with native endpoint telemetry, and threat intelligence to align threat investigation and response activities with the most critical assets.” “Cybersecurity operators need risk awareness to prioritise the alerts, incidents and threats bombarding our teams. Far too often, SIEM and XDR solutions deliver the data and expect us to make sense of it. True telemetry is so much more than just data. Integrating, correlating and transforming the data to provide meaningful context and actionable insights is the ultimate goal. Combining next-gen technology, such as Qualys, with our people and processes helps us proactively keep our clients resilient in the face of ever-evolving threats,” said John Ayers, Vice President of Advanced Detection at Optiv. Qualys Context XDR provides the security context that operations teams need to eliminate false positives and noise by triangulating risk posture, asset criticality, and threat intelligence. Together, this provides visibility, contextual priority, and meaningful insights about the assets that allow teams to quickly make the most impactful decisions for enhanced protection. For example, a vulnerability that is being actively exploited by malware on an executive’s computer or a highly sensitive server introduces a higher level of risk to the business than a system in a test environment and requires an immediate response. The Qualys Cloud Platform, which processes more than 10 trillion data points, seamlessly collects IT, security and compliance telemetry using its multiple native sensors along with third-party logs to provide a broader view across organisations’ global networks. Qualys Context XDR leverages this intelligence and the platform’s cloud agent response capabilities – like patching, fixing misconfigurations, killing processes and network connections, and quarantining hosts – to comprehensively remediate the threats identified, and increase the productivity of time-starved security analysts. Healthcare

Healthcare – Convergence is key

What growing challenges do we expect to see in the healthcare sector in the next year, find out from the top industry experts As we enter a new year in a continued evolving environment from the remnants of a global pandemic, we take a look at the biggest security predictions to the Healthcare sector for 2022 focusing on biometrics, convergence, cybersecurity and more. Hear from our security experts on what they are expecting to see most of during 2022 in the healthcare sector.   Healthcare facilities face many challenges in terms of security. When thinking about security solutions to protect assets, staff and visitors/patients, healthcare management must consider cyber related precautions, data protection, pharmaceutical, machinery and asset security as well as the physical foundations of building and people safety. As healthcare facilities can be incredibly emotionally volatile places, all these measures must be carefully considered. So what growing challenges can we see continuing and appearing in 2022 and beyond?  Rise in biometrics  The Covid-19 pandemic created a whirlwind of changes to healthcare and brought in a new era of digital health that has redefined patient care and will remain the top focus in the industry for many years to come.  It has become increasingly simple to monitor a patient’s health in the comfort of their home. In fact, home-based wearable and implantable biosensors, such as smart jewellery like the Oura and Apple Watch, continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), KardiaMobile EKG app, CardioMEMS device, and Bluetooth-enabled medical devices such as stethoscopes have become more prevalent and more accessible to consumers. Demand for this technology will only increase as at-home or on-the-go physician monitoring continues to grow, fueling adoption by healthcare practitioners. While these consumer-grade biometrics, including trackers and wearable devices, are making a substantial difference by allowing physicians to track a patient’s activity level, calories burned, sleep duration, and even their grocery list outside of a clinical setting, physicians are still sceptical of the information and statistics gathered.  At this point, many healthcare practitioners view consumer wearable biometric devices as screening tools and seek confirmatory testing using more traditional medical equipment such as electrocardiograms to validate information enough to add to a patient’s health record or make an informed decision about treatment methods or lifestyle changes.  With the enablement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, these “consumer-level” products will shift into “medical-grade” products. Therefore, physicians and hospitals will attempt to create ways to integrate the data into the healthcare system and the electronic medical record (EMR) for a more integrated patient journey. Many concerns may arise during that transition including the quality, cleanliness, and appropriateness of that data and the risk of information overload on the EMR and thus the healthcare professional.  Remote onboarding of patients was barely in its infancy pre-pandemic, but the sudden necessity of delivering high-volume digital health services (or “telehealth” services) led to a frantic adoption of makeshift digital identity processes that, to be candid, weren’t always so robust, convenient, or secure.  We expect several things about this to change in 2022. One of which is healthcare payers and providers are likely to rethink many of their existing digital identity processes and replace One Time Passwords (OTPs) and other legacy factors with biometric-based patient onboarding and ongoing authentication, which is both exponentially more convenient and more secure.    Read the full article in our February issue here: February 2022 Single Issue – (securitybuyer.com) Media contact Rebecca Morpeth Spayne, Editor, Security Portfolio Tel: +44 (0) 1622 823 922 Email: editor@securitybuyer.com

X-ray screening and biometric systems

The approximately US$ 7.8 billion market for security screening is highly likely to approach the revenues worth US$ 10 billion in the next two years. As indicated by a newly launched research report by ESOMAR-certified market research and consulting firm, more than half of the total demand for security screening is being accounted by the developed regional markets. East Asia however is cited as the most lucrative market for investors in security screening systems and solutions. Rapid growth in the economy, necessitating increasing expenditure on the national and infrastructural security, will continue to push deployment of reliable and advanced technology enabled security screening systems. While analysis identifies an impressive rate of adoption within emerging economies, China, India, and Russia are more likely to be at the forefront of this growth, in the security screening market. Airports generate maximum demand for security screening, explosive trace detectors bestselling Over 2/5th of the global security screening demand is accounted by airports, which will remain the dominant application area for security screening systems manufacturers and suppliers. As government buildings are highly vulnerable owing to the voluminous sensitive information that they procure, public recreation areas such as malls are also cited as the next sensitive area for implementation of effective security screening. Border check points are also expected to emerge lucrative through coming years, in the security screening market. Explosive trace detectors, currently accounting for nearly 1/4th share of the total sales of security screening systems, will reportedly witness strong growth in demand through the coming years. According to the report, X-Ray screening systems and biometric systems are also highly popular among the end-use application areas in security screening market. The collective market value share of the aforementioned security screening systems is just-under 50% and the report expects attractiveness of the latter to surge – with growing adoption of fingerprint and face recognition technologies. Smart security screening trending in the global market Looking at the loopholes in current security screening models in terms of efficiency and sustainability, airports have been accelerating the industry’s shift to smart security screening solutions, over the recent past. A combined initiative of Airports Council International (ACI) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), smart security is emerging as a streamlined solution for airlines, passengers, and their belongings. Recently, Australia’s first-ever smart security screening checkpoint was unveiled at the Melbourne Airport. Westminster Group recently completed the acquisition of Keyguard UK. The latter provides the blend of manned security and the latest technology enabled security screening systems. The former will now offer packages combining technology and guarding – particularly to the infrastructure security domain. This deal is expected to benefit both the business bases, in form of multiple cross-selling opportunities.
