Axis Communications officially opened its new office in the UK on Thursday. In a ceremony attended by the Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill, the company opened the doors to around 50 industry representatives including SecurityNewsDesk.com.

The office is the hub for 24 staff employed by Axis in the UK.

Thornhill, one of the country’s new directly elected mayors, gave a brief speech in which she congratulated Axis on the their decision to relocate in Watford. She also approved of the company’s choice of corporate colours to match Watford Borough Council and Watford Football Club.

Bodil Sonesson, vice present for global sales, said Axis has requests to open new offices around the globe on a weekly basis. The company has also recently opened large training and demonstration facilities in Lund, Sweden and Los Angeles, California.

In an interview with SecurityNewsDesk.com, regional director for Northern Europe, Phil Doyle, said that companies like Axis still had a lot of work to do in penetrating the UK camera market which is still predominantly analogue, but said that elsewhere in the world IP CCTV was taking off nicely.

The company demonstrated its new Axis Camera Companion software which it claims will replace the conventional analogue CCTV system and DVR because of its powerful features and ease of installation. You can read more about that in our interview with Phil Doyle here.
