Police Crime Prevention Academy deliver more accredited crime prevention qualifications to police and security teams from across the UK

Five police forces, a Civil Service Security Team and Warwickshire County Council are the latest organisations to have their staff undertake accredited crime prevention qualifications from The Police Crime Prevention Academy.

Officers from West Midlands Police, Durham Constabulary, the Merseyside Police Service, Dorset Police, and Northamptonshire Police joined a Civil Service Security Team and staff from Warwickshire County Council to undertake the Level 4 Certificate in Crime Prevention for Practitioners.

The Level 4 Certificate in Crime Prevention for Practitioners is a qualification for those who are in a specialist crime prevention role. The content includes the context of crime; the application of a problem solving process; correct and effective use of security products; site security surveys and environmental visual audits; working in partnerships and related legislation; and running a crime prevention initiative.

Speaking on behalf of the Police Crime Prevention Academy, the Head of Academy Guy Collyer, said: “We now run two national courses each year, and they are in significant demand. We are always happy to see a mix of professions taking these qualifications and welcome the attendance of Local Authorities and other interested professions.”

The Level 4 Certificate provides a stepping stone to the Level 5 Diploma in Crime Prevention – Designing Out Crime.

The certificate is part of the new generation of accredited, regulated and portable qualifications in crime prevention and designing out crime which became available from September 2018. The qualifications provide learning and CPD opportunities for those within the Police Service and other public organisations that have a statutory duty around delivering safer communities. This includes Local Authority departments, Community Safety Partnerships, Fire and Rescue, Health and Probation services. The qualifications are also available and relevant to private sector businesses, such as security staff and managers, architects and planners.

After assuming responsibility from the College of Policing for the running of crime prevention and designing out crime courses in the UK, the Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (PCPI) Crime Prevention Academy has been delivering a new nationally recognised generation of ProQual approved and OFQUAL accredited qualifications in crime prevention and designing out crime since September 2018.

All qualifications are available for Police, Local Authorities, Security Staff and others with an interest in building security such as fire, architects and planners. The qualifications are also available and relevant to the private sector, be it business, retail or industrial settings.

As well as scheduled national delivery, the qualifications can be delivered locally dependent on delegate numbers and available budget of an organisation. Bespoke solutions can be requested for specific needs within the private sector.

A range of Cyber Crime Prevention Courses are also available through the Police Digital Security Centre.
