The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) is encouraging its members to submit their nominations now for the 2014 BSIA Security Personnel Awards.

The BSIA’s awards are presented both regionally and nationally, and reward security personnel for their achievements across five key categories: Service to the Customer, Outstanding Act, Best Newcomer, Best Use of Technology and Best Team.

2013’s Security Personnel Awards saw 33 high calibre regional winners and 15 outstanding national winners being recognised for their hard work and achievements, and BSIA members are being encouraged to nominate personnel for next year’s awards.

The deadline for applications for the 2014 awards is 1st November 2013, with the judging for the regional awards taking place throughout December. Those winners of the regional rounds will then be put forward to the nationals, with judging taking place in March 2014.

“These awards are a fantastic opportunity for our member companies to showcase the talents of personnel who go above and beyond the call of duty every day in order to deliver a high quality service and maintain the positive reputation of our industry,” comments James Kelly, Chief Executive of the BSIA.

The awards seek to showcase the achievements of small and medium-sized businesses as well as the larger players in the sector, and many SMEs have gained added exposure for their businesses through their award successes.

Steve Fives, Group Chairman for the Westgrove Group – who won two national awards this year – spoke highly of the awards scheme: “The Westgrove Group had the enviable accolade of winning two coveted national awards for two of our security colleagues last year, an amazing achievement for our company in our very first year of submitting nominations.

“Traditionally the security industry’s bigger players have dominated the awards; as an independent company we were delighted to be acknowledged. Winning has given our business a significantly improved market profile and there has been a tangible difference relating to the awareness of the Westgrove brand within our target market. We will most certainly be submitting nominations once again for next year’s awards.”

Similarly, John Beharrell, Managing Director of SPS Security – whose nomination for Best Team received the national accolade – was equally enthusiastic about the awards: “When we were advised that the Priory Shopping Centre Team had been awarded the BSIA National Award for Best Team, we were delighted! We were proud to win such a respected award from a highly-regarded governing body for the security industry. We invest heavily to ensure that all of our security personnel are fully trained to deliver their important roles and for that to be recognised in this way was a wonderful achievement.”

Winners and their employers receive positive publicity in local and regional media, as well as comprehensive coverage in the security trade press. National award winners will also gain the added exposure of receiving their award at the BSIA’s flagship Annual Luncheon event, which is held at the London Hilton on Park Lane. Awards are customarily presented by the Association’s Guest of Honour, which in the past has included The Princess Royal, senior MPs and Cabinet Ministers, and senior Police officials.
