Herta: Recognising an opportunity

WavestoreDemand for accurate facial recognition software continues to increase. Banks, casinos and retailers are keen to take advantage of a technology which can help them deter and detect criminal activity whilst also offering valuable marketing data. Not surprisingly, the technology has also attracted the attention of security personnel where a high performance detection capability is required for mission critical applications.

With the news that Herta facial recognition software can interact with Wavestore’s VMS comes an opportunity for installers and system integrators to generate new business whilst equipping their customers with a powerful tool to enhance and automate their systems.

A typical way in which the two software platforms could interact would be when Herta Security’s facial recognition software detects and matches a face to an image previously captured and stored on a database of known offenders.  When this occurs, the image of the matched face is time/date stamped and immediately stored by Wavstore’s VMS alongside the relevant recorded video of the person entering the store. At the same time an alarm is generated which alerts security personnel that an unwanted visitor may have entered, for example, a retail store. A combined Wavestore and Herta solution can however be used in many other different ways, including access control, in that the  solution can be configured to only generate an alarm when a face is not recognised as belonging to someone who is authorised to be in a restricted area.

Herta Security is a world leader in the development of cutting edge facial recognition solutions. Based in Barcelona, Spain, and with offices in Madrid and the recently opened London office, the company offers fast, accurate, robust, end-customer oriented solutions for video surveillance, access control, and marketing requirements. It has been involved in a large number of international projects including safe-cities, airports, train and metro stations, prisons, banks, casinos, sports stadiums, shopping malls, military, police and forensic applications.
