Security Institute Chairman Mike Bluestone reported an excellent year of progress for the organisation at its Annual General Meeting, hosted by Nomura in London on 22nd June 2011.
With Security Institute President Lord Carlile QC in attendance, along with many directors and members of the organisation, Mike delivered his report which included details of several successes in the last twelve months, largely due to the introduction of portfolios of responsibilities for the Board of Directors.
As a consequence, excellent progress has been made, such as the launch of the new Good Practice Guidelines, recognition and growth of the award-winning distance learning programme, joining the Security Alliance at its outset and becoming one of the Governing member organisations, submission of a petition for Royal Charter, and launch of a Register for Chartered Security Professionals.
The election of Directors saw Ken Livingstone and Joe Greenan being returned for a second term in office with the Security Institute, plus Dr Alison Wakefield, Louise Lush OBE, Andrew Nicholls, Mike Hurst and Garry Evanson joining the Board as elected directors.
The AGM was followed by the Annual Institute Exhibition and Conference, sponsored by the Fire & Security Association, Global Aware and Ultimate Security.
The event was opened by Deputy Mayor of London Richard Barnes talking about security in London in 2012, who was followed by Lynne Featherstone MP talking about plans for the future of regulation. Topics covered by other speakers included recovering from disaster in Japan, securing the Post Office, 10 years on and post-Bin Laden: Success, Threats and Vulnerabilities, corporate case studies, and excessive and adequate use of surveillance.
The Conference was followed by drinks and a BBQ attended by 160 members and guests, sponsored by IFSEC 2012 and Global Aware. The charity Victim Support was supported by the event.
