INTERPOL announces new security event: INTERPOL World

INTERPOL has announced the forthcoming launch in Singapore of INTERPOL World, a new international event aimed at identifying innovative solutions to global security challenges. INTERPOL World will connect governments and national security agencies with security companies which can provide innovative technologies and solutions to co-create solutions.

INTERPOL World will take place from 14-16 April 2015, in conjunction with the official opening of the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) in Singapore (13 April 2015). The event, which will highlight public-private partnership, will include the INTERPOL World Expo, the INTERPOL World Congress and the INTERPOL World Dialogue. The three-day event will host some 250 international and local exhibitors and around 8,000 trade and professional visitors.

INTERPOL World is a unique platform that brings together the public and private sectors to generate solutions to make the world safer. With technological advancement occurring at an unprecedented rate and scale, the world is now confronted with a host of new crime threats that are increasingly complex and intertwined. Fuelled by the same forces of globalization which expand trade and communication, organized crime threatens the safety and security of citizens as well as hampering economic and political stability at an enormous cost to development. According to the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Organized Crime 2012-2013, the cross-border flow of global proceeds from criminal activities, corruption and tax evasion is estimated at more than USD 1 trillion, with illegal drugs and counterfeit goods each accounting for 8 per cent of world trade.

At the same time, this creates enormous opportunities for commercial security organizations.

According to the latest research released by Frost & Sullivan, the Asia Pacific market for security and defence will reach USD180 billion by 2020, an increase of nearly 2.6 per cent per year from USD150 billion in 2013.

INTERPOL World provides unprecedented opportunities for security solution-providers to interact with international police organizations, law enforcement agencies and security professionals, to identify current and future challenges and offer innovative solutions. It also promotes public-private partnerships to develop and drive security initiatives for real world security situations. The inaugural event in 2015 will focus on, but is not limited to, the four key domains of Cyber Security, Safe Cities, Border Management and Supply Chain Security.

Julia Viedma, Director of INTERPOL’s International Partnerships and Development unit said:

“INTERPOL World represents a new paradigm of closer collaboration between the public and private sectors to address new and increasingly complex security challenges facing the world today. This cooperation is essential, given advancements in technology, increasing movements of people between borders and the rising sophistication of criminal syndicates worldwide.”

Richard Wong, Director – Public Sector & Security Practice from Frost & Sullivan, INTERPOL World’s Supporting Knowledge Partner said:

“Frost & Sullivan is excited and honoured to be a knowledge partner for INTERPOL World. This event will provide an excellent opportunity and distinctive platform for global participants to exchange ideas and experiences in preventing and managing complex threats and crime in today’s connected global environment.”

The event is owned by INTERPOL, supported by the Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs and managed by MP International.

INTERPOL World will be held on 14-16 April 2015 at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Singapore.
