Samsung SRN-4000 receives Network Rail PADS approval
The award winning SRN-4000 Network Video Recorder (NVR) has joined the list of Samsung cameras, domes, recorders and Ethernet switches within its IP network video surveillance range which have been approved for use within Network Rail infrastructure.
Confirmation that the SRN-4000 complies with the requirements for PADS certification follows a process during which it has been evaluated and comprehensively tested to ensure that it is reliable, fit for purpose and complies with Network Rail’s demanding standards in respect of safety.
The SRN-4000, which was voted 2015 CCTV Product of the Year by the readers of PSI (Professional Security Installer) Magazine, offers an extremely robust, out-of-the box Linux based video recording solution with a feature set which ensures it can be relied upon to deliver a highly resilient, low maintenance recording solution. Samsung’s comprehensive rail solution is likely to attract the attention of system designers, security managers and rail sector operations managers who are looking to minimise the total cost of ownership for video surveillance systems.
Key features
Key features include a built-in hard drive ‘Hot Swap’ facility which ensures that recording is not interrupted if a fault occurs. SMART drive management delivers pertinent data to help predict and manage potential drive failure. Interruptions caused by PSU failure are minimized by way of a dual power supply. Field replaceable components include power supplies, cooling fans and even the processor.
The SRN-4000 is able to simultaneously record and multi-stream images at a high bandwidth, offering 700Mbps total throughput with provision for both internal and external storage.
Ease of use
A lot of thought has gone into the SRN-4000’s on-screen user interface to ensure that it can be configured in only four steps using the ‘Easy Setup’ wizard, whilst cameras can be registered without complication via a quick set up process. As well as the full range of Samsung IP network cameras, the SRN-4000 also supports other manufacturers’ cameras which are ONVIF compliant.
Fast and efficient searching
The SRN-4000 enables users to quickly find and review video of any incident by using a combination of advanced motion detection as well as video analytics and metadata search options. Images can be searched by classification, e.g. keyword search such as ‘car’, people’ or ‘train’, whilst a heat map feature provides the opportunity to statistically analyse concentrated spots of activity.
