Access control upgrade announced for Auckland Airport

Airport-Airplane

Auckland Airport, the busiest airport in New Zealand, is to benefit from an access control system upgrade across its site to ensure the highest level of security for staff and visitors.

The airport is the second-busiest in Australasia, served by more than 20 international airlines and carrying over 14 million passengers a year.

CEM Systems, part of Tyco Security Products, has been awarded the contract to secure Auckland Airport. The CEM AC2000 security management system will be installed across the site’s terminals.

Under the contract, ADT Security will install the access control system at the airport’s domestic and international terminals, ancillary buildings and car parks. The firm will be responsible for maintaining and servicing the access control system once installed.

The system will utilise CEM’s AC2000 Visual Imaging and Pass Production System to allow security staff to produce passes and access rights for both staff and visitors, while the AC2000 WEB Visitors will allow users to manage temporary cardholders simply via a standard web browser.

In addition, the AC2000 Time and Attendance module will also be installed to allow easy reading of reports covering in and out times of employees.

A key part of the new security overhaul sees the use of CEM S3030 portable card readers to allow on-site airport security staff to validate cards at remote sites and carry out random checks in emergency situations.

Andrew Fulton, Senior Director of Global Sales at CEM Systems, said: “Being awarded the contract to secure Auckland Airport is another significant win for CEM.

“CEM has a proven history of understanding the dynamics and needs of airports and the industry-leading CEM AC2000 system has been used to secure airports around the world for over 20 years; Auckland Airport joins some of the world’s most prestigious airports in selecting CEM Systems.”

David Tombs, National Manager, Commercial, ADT Security New Zealand, said, “The CEM AC2000 system is in use in major international airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Dubai and Hong Kong and will ensure a high level of security at Auckland Airport.

“Our team will work to complete the project with minimum disruption to airport operations and the portable readers will enable us to manage the system switchover without any loss of access integrity.

“By using existing cabling at the airport to complete the installation, our team will also help keep the project cost effective and on time.”
