Independent fire and security specialists, Allcooper have been crowned winners at the 2013 Gloucestershire Apprenticeship Awards, in recognition of their development of apprentices at the company.
The awards were introduced by regional media duo, the Gloucestershire Echo and Citizen in 2012, bringing together apprentices, their employers and training providers to celebrate apprenticeship success across a variety of industries within the county.
Allcooper were nominated as finalists in the ‘Apprenticeship Development Category’, open to a company which could showcase the benefits to be gained from their commitment to apprenticeships, and demonstrate a culture of encouraging development in its on-going programme to recruit and train apprentices. A mixture of Directors, staff and apprentices attended the ceremony on behalf of Allcooper, who were announced as winners and presented with the award in front of over 250 fellow guests and businesses.
Bringing young people into the business has been a fundamental part of the Allcooper ethos for many years. Apprenticeship positions currently represent over 10% of the company work force, with roles filled within several departments including installations, finance and IT.
As well as developing his own group of apprentices at Allcooper, chief executive, Roman Cooper has been the driving force behind the introduction of a brand new Security Systems Apprenticeship at Gloucestershire College.
Roman started working for the family firm as an apprentice shortly after it was founded by his father Gary and brother Gerard in 1987.
When asked how it felt to have been named winners, Cooper explained: “Allcooper are absolutely thrilled to have won this award. As a former apprentice myself, for the business to be recognised for our work with apprenticeships is a fantastic feeling. However so much credit must go to the apprentices themselves, the members of staff that have helped them develop, and to our apprenticeship partners Gloucestershire College for their continued support.”
