Arecont Vision SNAPstream Bandwidth Reduction Technology supports multiple new and existing megapixel cameras

Arecont Vision has announced the expanded availability of SNAPstream™ (Smart Noise Adaptation and Processing) technology for 140 of the company’s megapixel camera models. SNAPstream promises to greatly reduce camera bandwidth requirements without impacting image quality, delivering new benefits to its customers, the company said.

Brad Donaldson, Vice President, Product Development, commented:

“SNAPstream reduces bandwidth and storage requirements of Arecont Vision megapixel cameras by 50 per cent or more across a wide range of surveillance situations. This important new technology is available for both newly manufactured cameras and for many pre-installed cameras at customer sites. Being able to update cameras already in use with major new features is a huge benefit to our customers that other camera vendors don’t offer.”

According to the company, this unique field upgrade capability is made possible by the company’s Massively Parallel Image Processing (MPIP) architecture. This advanced architecture runs on the Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) integrated circuit at the core of every Arecont Vision camera. The MPIP architecture also eliminates the risk of a cyber hacker maliciously repurposing an one of its cameras for use in cyberattacks.

SNAPstream technology was introduced in 2016 for several of the newest Arecont Vision camera families, including all MegaDome® 4K, MegaVideo® Flex, and MicroDome® Duo models. More than 100 additionalcamera models now support this advanced bandwidth-reducing technology, including members of the MegaBall®, MegaBall G2, MegaDome®, MegaDome 2, MegaVideo® Compact, MegaView® 2, MicroDome®, and MicroDome G2 series.

Camera models from each of these families manufactured after 5 March 2017 already include the new firmware that supports SNAPstream and other enhancements. Many previously-built Arecont Vision camera models from the list of supported series can also be updated (model dependent). An upcoming update later in 2017 will add SNAPstream support to most remaining cameras from the Arecont Vision product line.

Customers who wish to upgrade existing cameras with SNAPstream should contact the Technical Assistance Centre to verify applicability of their camera models, and to be assisted through the process.
