Corps Security and Microsegur join forces to secure solar farms

A new partnership between Corps Security and Spanish integration specialist Microsegur has seen the two combine to protect a number of solar farms in the UK. As part of this new alliance the Corps Monitoring Centre (CMC) will provide off-site surveillance for Microsegur’s growing client base.

With its expertise in perimeter security and its ability to devise comprehensive bespoke security systems using best-in-class technology, Microsegur has seen increasing demand for its services throughout the UK. Manuel Marin, the company’s managing director, commented, ‘Since setting up a dedicated UK office in Bristol earlier this year, we have been incredibly busy designing and installing security systems for 25 of the country’s biggest solar farms, which use the large scale application of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology to generate electricity.’

Solar farms are usually located in remote rural areas, making them easy targets for vandalism or theft of the expensive panels, copper cable and other associated equipment. Microsegur specifies, configures and tests the surveillance solutions for each location at its plant in Spain and then transports them over the UK for installation.

After recognising that a remote monitoring service would provide an additional level of security, Marin was advised to contact the Corps Monitoring Centre (CMC). After meeting Corps Security’s CMC business development director, Eric Roberts, and visiting the Glasgow based facility, he was so impressed that he immediately initiated the connection of the sites to the CMC, which has installed the necessary video analytics software.

Video analytics enables algorithms that provide artificial intelligence that can adapt to any programmed changes automatically. The software allows operatives at the CMC to clearly identify any issues and take the appropriate action in the event of an alarm.

With 15 more sites to be connected before the end of the 2013, these are exciting times for Corps Security and Microsegur. Eric Roberts concluded, ‘I’m delighted that we have been able to enter into this mutually beneficial agreement with Microsegur. Having visited the company’s headquarters in Spain I can attest to its innovative approach to systems implementation, which perfectly complements the technical excellence of the CMC. I look forward to working with Manuel and his team on the rest of the solar farms project and beyond.’
