The organisers of Counter Terror Expo have announced a record attendance for the show. In all, 8,519 members of the global counter terror community came together, between 25-26 April. There they saw; 400 exhibiting companies, 5 conference streams, 12 workshops and a plethora of demonstrations, showcases as well as partaking in numerous private meetings at the show.

The overall figure is the largest in the events’ history, a 9.9% increase over last year’s attendance.  This proves that combating terrorism is at the top of the agenda going forward, past this year’s Olympics, for key decision makers within the Government, Military, Law Enforcement, Emergency Services, Private Sector, Critical National Infrastructure and the Security Services.

“Threats to the safety of the public at large continue to threaten us and dominate the news headline: from the Al Qaeda terrorist attacks in Syria this week; to the announcement that the “Underwear bomber” has been stopped; to Anders Breivik’s court case in Norway; the analysis and prevention of these sorts of events is the entire raison d’être behind Counter Terror Expo.” observed Event Director Philip Hunter.

Hunter went on to explain: “We gather world-leading experts in the field of counter terrorism together annually, to showcase, discover and debate current and emerging issues and solutions and determine necessary counter measures moving forward. Beating the terrorist threat is a collaborative process and Counter Terror Expo exists to foster close cooperation amongst the principal agencies, organisations and industry suppliers responsible for the wellbeing of the public”.

The international appeal of the event, which featured an extensive knowledge centric workshop programme supported by a world-class technology exhibition of over four hundred exhibitors from across the globe, has never been higher.

Conference attendees received issue specific intelligence across the full gamut of areas concerned with counter terrorism, from over 150 top ranking specialist speakers including:

·         Dr Jamie Shea, Deputy ASG, Emerging Security Challenges Division, NATO

·         Mr Charles Farr, Director General, Office for Security and Counter Terrorism, Home Office

·         Mr John Tesh, Deputy Director, Civil Contingencies Secretariat, Cabinet Office

·         Lieutenant General Ronald L. Burgess, JR., USA, Director, Defense Intelligence Agency

·         Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Hyde, Lead on e-Crime Prevention, Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and President of the Society for the Policing of Cyberspace

·         Ms Sue Hemming, Head of the Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, Crown Prosecution Service (CPS)

·         Ms Michelle Russell, Head of Investigations and Enforcement, Charity Commission for England and Wales

·         Dr. Michael Rubin, The American Enterprise Institute

·         Mr Eugene Kaspersky, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, Kaspersky Lab

·         Mr John Lyons, Chief Executive, International Cyber Security Protection Alliance

·         Mr Kasper Ege, Counter Terrorism Implementation Task Force (CTITF) and CTIFT Office, United Nations

In addition Admiral The Right Honourable, Lord West of Spithead hosted an extensive VIP and Delegation programme, which saw over 100 key VIP’s, including large International Delegation Groups from; Canada, Belgium, Russia, Netherlands, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, NATO, Norway, European ECSA and Pakistan.  The VIP’s and Delegation Groups participated in hosted tours of the show, the Meet the Buyer Programme and our VIP lunch hosted by Lord West.

Counter Terror Expo remains one of the rare events, which continually evolves to reflect the threat horizon, in conference, workshop and exhibition format.

As Clarion Events begins building on this year’s success to design Counter Terror Expo 2013 (taking place again in Olympia, London, 24th – 25th April) to look at both emerging issues and future threats, they already have plans to introduce a range of new features, demonstrations and zones for next year’s event. These include; Cyber Security Zone, Anti-Piracy Zone, Integrated Security Zone and an Offshore Oil & Gas security Zone, as well as building on the success of this year’s IEDD Demonstration showcase and the Armoured Vehicle Zone.

On expectations for the show and the year ahead Hunter commented:  “Counter Terror Expo continues to deliver deep insight into the global, regional and national security issues faced by the primary agencies and organisations tasked with delivering solutions to ongoing and emerging threats, worldwide.”
