Genetec and SALTO Virtual Network technology link up to bolster Synergis
Genetec has announced that thanks to the support of the SALTO Virtual Network technology, its IP access control system security centre, Synergis, is now able to manage SALTO’s stand-alone battery-operated locks.
According to Genetec, this means that Synergis customers who want to replace their standard mechanical locks with Salt SVN-enabled locks in order to secure doors and entrances – in a cost-effective manner – can now do so without breaking the bank, whereas before it would have cost a lot with either wired or wireless locks.
By using RFID (radio-frequency identification) technology, SALTO SVN stand-alone locks (such as escutcheons, electronic cylinders, locker locks, electronic padlocks, and more) communicate with a central server by using a smart data-on-card system as their network, which enables all access data to be stored on and distributed by the keycard.
Once the keycard is presented to an offline stand-alone door, locker, cabinet or server rack, thanks to two-way communication, not only does this control the door’s access rights, bit it also writes data such as blacklist information, battery status, or additional access rights back onto the card. Then, the keycard transmits that information back to Synergis by way of an online wall that readers can update and pick up information from the card, whenever and wherever they are in the building.
Providing some more information on the matter, Genetec’s Access Control Product Marketing Manager Derek Arcuri spoke about how customers can now have advanced security without spending mega bucks.
“Customers who rely on traditional mechanical brass keys for interior openings like doors, cabinets and lockers are all too familiar with the tremendous costs and loss of time associated with rekeying and lock reprogramming,” Arcuri said. SALTO’s SVN supported locks have the XS4 range of escutcheons, electronic cylinders and the entire SALTO platform at a cost-effective price, and by using a SALTO SVN system, customers get rid of the need to replace locks when security is breached due to the loss of theft of mechanical keys. Due to the way it’s seamlessly integrated with Synergis, access cards and locks can now be updated, restricted or deleted remotely.
Bill Wood, President of Salto Systems, is delighted at how the Genetic and SALTO have merged for Synergis, and hailed their impact as security products.
“For customers who wish to include offline locks in their managed access control infrastructure the only option was –until now– to replace these standalone locks with more expensive hard wired or wireless options,” Wood said. “The SALTO SVN-enabled locks are not only priced similarly to traditional locks, but they can now be integrated and managed within Synergis through the movement of SALTO SVN smartcards.”
The SALTO XS4 platform is available immediately through Genetec and its certified global network of resellers.
