Opengear Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary, Continues to Innovate

opengearOpengear, a leading provider of critical infrastructure management solutions through advanced console servers, remote management, monitoring, and cellular out-of-band products, has announced the celebration of its tenth anniversary of helping businesses securely connect to their distributed IT infrastructures. Founded in 2004, the Utah-based company has now worked for a decade to design, create, and sell the best out-of-band management (OOBM) solutions on the market. In 2014, the company again experienced 50% growth in year-over-year sales and continued to expand the number of resellers implementing Opengear solutions.

“Ten years is certainly an exciting milestone for our company,” said Bob Waldie, Founder and Chairman, Opengear. “Looking back, we’ve changed and grown so much in a relatively short amount of time. What started out with a few basic out-of-band management products has expanded into a multi-line enterprise with solutions addressing a wide variety of remote management and data center needs, from locomotives to education providers to telecom. We have always been innovation-driven in our work to provide businesses the best options to help them promote business continuity.”

After its founding in 2004, Opengear was a part of the OKVM Open Source Project. The CM4000 and the SD4000-2005, the company’s initial OOBM products, were released in 2005. The first Opengear OOBM offering for the enterprise, the IM4200 line, was added in 2006, and the company has only expanded from there. Opengear was featured at LinuxWorld in 2008, won the Open Source Top 50 award in 2009, captured an Open Source Top 25 Award in 2010, and was designated a “Cool Vendor” in IT/OT Alignment and Integration by Gartner in 2013. Most recently, Opengear has introduced the IM7200 Infrastructure Management and the ACM5500 Management Gateway to industry accolades, both of which introduce cellular capabilities to OOBM.”

The cellular connectivity that many of our products provide gives unique 3G and 4G network accessible solutions to our clients,” said Tony Merenda, CTO, Opengear. “The addition of cellular networks for OOBM vastly increases the use cases and possibilities of these solutions. With 3G or 4G LTE networks, IT managers can remotely diagnose and resolve primary network issues that may have previously required onsite maintenance. It’s been a significant change in how remote sites can be managed.”

Opengear launched the ACM5004-GS, a Sprint 3G certified smart router, in 2013, and received AT&T and Verizon 4G LTE certification for the ACM5504-5-L and IM7200-L in 2014. These important certifications give Opengear customers the option to leverage the network resources of these major carriers as a part of their plans to insure business continuity. The company continues to expand its LTE-enabled product line, with the ACM5508-2-L-I management gateway next in line and due to ship in June 2014.

“We are thrilled to mark a full decade of Opengear,” said Rick Stevenson, CEO, Opengear. “But more than that, we’re continually looking towards the future – both for our company and for the industry as a whole. We’ve had a great ten years, and we expect to have many more.”
