Research Reveals Security Managers are Central to Cutting Energy Costs

IFSECAccording to the research conducted by IFSEC Global.com on behalf of access control pioneer ASSA ABLOY, it was found that a head of security’s role has evolved in the age of ‘smart’ buildings and now sees it as a priority to implement security solutions that consume less energy.

Security continues to overlap with disciplines like IT, fire prevention, facilities management and building control, which has been reflected in the co-location of six shows at the Protection & Management Series, which takes place 16 – 18 June 2015 at ExCeL London.

Research demonstrated that heads of security departments strive to minimise carbon emissions to ensure greater energy efficiency, as it becomes commercially important and buildings become ‘smarter’. Adopting automated temperature detection and other environmental changes and computers calibrating air conditioning and heating accordingly – heads of security departments now strive for greater energy efficiency as well as protecting staff and assets.

Around a third of survey respondents using traditional wired access systems were unaware that wireless systems consume much less energy.

The survey canvassed the views of facilities managers, heads of security, installers and integrators.
