Securitas shortlisted for two Excellence in Fire & Emergency Awards

Securitas UK has been shortlisted for two Excellence in Fire & Emergency Awards. Both nominations recognise contracts, which are innovative in the industry and involve close working supplier/customer partnerships.

The company is a finalist in the Emergency Services Partnership of the Year category in conjunction with London Fire Brigade, and for Supplier of the Year with the University of Hertfordshire.

London Fire Brigade

Securitas works closely with London Fire Brigade to maintain and deploy Emergency Fire Crew Capability Services (EFCC) across the capital. The contract – which was awarded in November 2014 – ensures that the Brigade can continue to meet its service duties under sections 7 and 8 of the Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004 and those specified under section 2 of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 to plan for emergencies. The service provides for a contingency Emergency Fire Crew Capability that is deployed as and when the London Fire Brigade’s own front line operational services (including emergency response and 999 call handling) are reduced or impacted by a business continuity event.

The Emergency Fire Crew Capability has been successfully deployed in London on approximately fifty occasions. During these deployments the Emergency Fire Crew Capability attended and dealt with a significant number of emergency incidents including significant fires in buildings (with associated rescues) and extrication of people trapped in cars.

University of Hertfordshire

Earlier this year, the University of Hertfordshire awarded Securitas a ten-year Protective Services contract – thought to be the first of its kind. Securitas worked closely with the University’s management to put together a comprehensive, risk-based solution involving substantial investment in technological and logistical innovation. The package covers car park management, surveillance control room management, cash in transit and dedicated reception services, with all Securitas staff wearing University branded uniforms, echoing the University’s focus on providing a safe and secure environment for its students, staff, visitors and assets. Also revolutionary is Securitas’ provision of a first response service to manage a wide range of incidents including small waste bin fires, lift failures, environmental spillages, vehicle collisions and fire alarm activations. Not only is the contract working very effectively, it represents a half million-pound annual cost saving over the University’s previous solution.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Hertfordshire said:

“A robust emergency response plan is at the heart of our efforts to ensure that staff, students and the wider community are protected in the event of a serious incident at the University. The aim of this plan is to ensure a comprehensive and timely response in the earliest stages of an emergency. It also safeguards arrangements for liaison with the other agencies that may be involved such as the emergency services, the local councils and the University insurers.”

Shaun Kennedy, Securitas UK Director of Specialised Protective Services, said:

“The way we work in close partnership, combined with our innovative approach to adding value by delivering additional services, is a benefit for both Securitas and our customers. It can’t be done without investment either – in technology and our people.”

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at Westminster on December 2nd.
