Five leading professional security organisations in the UK are teaming up to raise more than £40,000 for two worthy charities – the St Giles Trust and PTSD Resolution.

Emma Shaw TSI announces charity fundraiser at CTX 2014
Emma Shaw, Chairman of The Security Institute, announced the charity event at a drinks reception at Counter Terror Expo 2014

The news was revealed by Emma Shaw, Chairman of the Security Institute, at a drinks reception at Counter Terror Expo on Tuesday evening.

The five associations involved in the fundraising are the City of London Crime Prevention Association, The Security Institute, ASIS International, IPSA and ADS Group Ltd. They will hold a black-tie dinner on 30 September 2014 at the Grange City Hotel, a five-star venue overlooking the Tower of London, with guest speaker the Lord Carlile of Berriew CBE QC.

Carlile was created a life peer in 1999, as Baron Carlile of Berriew, of Berriew in the County of Powys, having previously been a Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Montgomeryshire from 1983 to 1997. He was awarded the CBE in 2012 for services to national security and he is considered to be one of Britain’s top legal experts.

Speaking to SecurityNewsDesk after the announcement, Shaw said that the charity drive would not only help to raise money for two very good causes but also foster collaboration between professional bodies in the industry: “As a profession, security has changed over the  years and there is a need for much closer collaboration, and there is a recognition among the professional organisations that we need to work more closely together – and what better way to do this than to raise a substantial amount of money for charity?”

Don Randall, Chairman of the organising committee and also of the City of London Crime Prevention Association, said: “I am honoured to be part of this fundraising project which has brought together professionals from the various security associations in the UK and delivered what I hope will be an annual event on everyone’s calendar for many years to come.”

The St Giles Trust aims to help break the cycle of prison, crime and disadvantage, creating safer communities by supporting people to help them change their lives. It offers a range of services which have helped over 16,000 clients overcome any barriers which might be holding them back from moving forward. Ultimately, the Trust equips people with skills to help them live independent lives.

PTSD Resolution is a charity that offers a unique service counselling the UK Armed Forces, Territorial Army and Regular Reserves, as well as their dependants, to relieve mental health problems resulting from military service and the traumas that they have faced. The PTSD Resolution Outreach Programme has over 200 counsellors trained in trauma-focussed cognitive behavioural therapy and provides a valuable contact point for anyone requiring counselling, complimentary to the work of the other armed forces charities.

Tickets for the black-tie dinner are £100 each and includes an exquisite three-course dinner menu and one free entry in the £20 ticketed prize raffle. It will begin with a welcome reception at 6.30pm followed by dinner which will conclude at 11pm. There will be a cash bar before and after.
