The Security Industry Authority (SIA) has unveiled its latest service to allow security companies to renew licences through a new dedicated online e-Renewals system.
As part of the new scheme, security businesses can renew SIA licences or apply for additional licences for their staff using the tailored online facility.
The SIA, the organisation responsible for the regulation of the private security industry, claims the e-Renewals service removes the need for documents to be printed and submitted.
It also allows employers to renew applications on behalf of a licence holder, with their permission, without the need of a signature. Any individual involved in manned guarding, key holding and vehicle immobilising needs to be licenced by the independent regulatory body.
Christy Hopkins, Assistant Director of Customer Service and Quality Improvement for the SIA, said the e-Renewals service was developed through discussions with security companies to ensure it matched their precise needs.
“We ran a pilot with selected companies, which was very successful and we received positive feedback from those participating. The group were pleased with how user friendly the system was and felt that it would save them time and reduce their future costs,” she added.
The SIA has launched a new dedicated business line to support the e-Renewals service and has plans for further developments to the online services it offers security companies.
Hopkins said: “As we move towards a new regulatory regime that is focussed on businesses, we will continue to make improvements to our licensing processes. Our aim is to reduce cost, simplify the application process and help businesses to manage the licensing process of their employees.”
