SSAIB, the UK’s leading Certification Body for electronic security, manned guarding services, fire protection, intruder and other alarm systems, has unveiled a constructive new initiative to help properly protect a range of potentially vulnerable sites.

The SSAIB’s new Code of Practice for temporary alarm systems will assist in safeguarding construction areas, vacant premises and other buildings at risk from vandalism, arson, squatters, criminal damage and other harmful attacks.

The Code provides valuable guidance for those specifying, designing, installing, commissioning and repairing temporary alarms systems, including those intended to protect void property. The comprehensive 22-page Code’s recommendations include reference to relevant standards covering issues including alarms systems operation and environmental test methods, detection devices, remote monitoring and response services

“A wide variety of companies are providing an increasing number of temporary alarm systems to minimise the risks posed to these types of premises,” says SSAIB Chief Executive Geoff Tate. “These risks can cause significant harm in terms of time, expense, disruption and impact on future insurance premiums. Our new Code of Practice meets a need for auditable recommendations on all the issues involved in ensuring this protection is efficient, effective and false alarm-free.”

The Code will be available for free download in a PDF format from SSAIB.org and anyone interested in receiving a copy should send an email to ssaib@ssaib.org

The SSAIB certificates security service providers in the UK and provides access to technical experts who help service providers explain standards and technical requirements. Meanwhile for purchasers, specifiers and end-users the SSAIB’s remit as a Certification Body is to ensure their interests are protected and they have access to a pool of competent service providers they can rely on.
