Surveillance Camera Commissioner to launch Third Party Certification Scheme at Global MSC

Surveillance Camera Commissioner to launch Third Party Certification Scheme at Global MSC Security 2015 Bristol event.

Global MSC’s annual security technology conference is celebrating their 10th Anniversary of educational seminars and this year sees the launch of the National Surveillance Camera Commissioner’s ‘Third Party Certification Scheme’.

The event takes place on Tuesday 10th November 2015 at The Bristol Hotel in Bristol City Centre. This year the topic is Technology and Innovation in the Security Industry, and is shaping up to be the most informative since the events began, with high profile speakers and a varied programme of eminent speakers.

One year on from the launch of his self assessment tool, Tony Porter, The Surveillance Camera Commissioner for England and Wales, will launch a third party certification scheme at the Global MSC show.

Certification is simple accessible and affordable. It enables organisations to clearly demonstrate they comply with the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice and for relevant authorities it’s essential that they can evidence they have shown due regard to the Code – certification enables them to do this.

There are two steps to certification. The first step – desktop certification – is aimed at organisations that are working hard to achieve full compliance with the Code but are aware that they may need more time to become fully compliant. The second step – full certification – is for organisations that are close to or fully compliant with the Code – it involves a visit and full audit from a certification body.

There are currently two UKAS accredited certification bodies who are qualified to audit against the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice – the SSAIB and NSI.

Successful organisations will receive a certificate and be able to display the Commissioner’s certification mark on their website and other publicity material.

Tony Porter said:

“Certification enables organisations to demonstrate to communities that they use their CCTV systems transparently, effectively and proportionately. It shows they comply with the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice and indicates they follow best practice. I’m determined to raise standards across the industry and following on from self assessment my third party certification scheme aims to do just that.”

At last years event Tony launched CCTV the ‘Self-Assessment’ Tool to help businesses and the public comply and understand how public space surveillance CCTV should be managed and operated reflecting individuals’ right to privacy.

Derek Maltby, MD of Global MSC said: –

“This is the second year the Surveillance Camera Commissioner has made a major announcement at our event. We’re thrilled he recognises the significance of our shows to launch such major announcements.”

Wireless ‘Body Worn Video’ cameras will be on display together with High Definition Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) Cameras that can enforce road traffic law automatically.

The Right Honourable Lord Mayor of Bristol, Councillor Clare Campion-Smith will also be in attendance.
Other Speakers include:
  • Dr Tim Brain, OBE, QPM, FRSA, Former Chief Constable of Gloucestershire Constabulary
  • Daniel Nesbitt, Research Director, Big Brother Watch
  • Professor William Webster, Director, CRISP (Centre for Research into Information, Surveillance and Privacy), University of Stirling
