Synectics launches new Camera Base for Mains Powered Performance

Global surveillance business Synectics has launched a new integrated power base for its COEX™ C3000 hazardous area camera stations which are widely used by many of the world’s most challenging oil and gas, marine and critical infrastructure environments.

The new, self-contained base, for fiber optic housing and integral power conversion, enables mains connectivity negating the need for a separate junction box. The power base is available with all models in the COEX C3000 range and is IECEx, ATEX and US Class/Division certified.

Synectics’ COEX C3000 explosion proof, corrosion resistant camera stations are specifically engineered to withstand extreme weather and operational conditions common to demanding applications such as processing plants, production platforms, FPSOs, pipelines, power networks, terminals, and LNG carriers.

The range’s performance credentials and versatility ‒ with fixed, PTZ and HD IP models available ‒ makes the development of the new power base a natural evolution, reinforcing Synectics’ long-standing reputation for delivering flexible end-to-end solutions to large-scale mission critical security and surveillance projects.

Darren Alder, Synectics’ Divisional Director for Oil & Gas, explains:

“For vast, complex projects with strict performance and reliability requirements, power can be a dilemma. Locally powered cameras can be restrictive for some settings, necessitating mains power connection. Where mains power is required, high voltage power has to be converted to low voltage to make it camera compatible.

“Traditionally this has required an alternative base for fiber optics and a separate junction box for conversion which had to be located in close proximity to the camera station to avoid power drop off. It made absolute sense for us to develop a single, cost effective power base solution that would address these challenges.”

The C3000 variable speed power base model will be deployed across the site of a new large-scale LNG project based in the US ‒ where production is scheduled to commence in 2018.
