TMD celebrates 20th Anniversary at DSEI 2015

TMD celebrates 20th Anniversary at DSEI 2015 with its latest, most advanced products on show

See state of the art, solid state and TWT based microwave power modules for the defence and national security market – and more all on Stand S3-255, ADS UK Pavilion

Following its recent 20th anniversary celebration in June of its highly successful MBO (Management Buy Out) from Thorn EMI Electronics in 1995, TMD Technologies Limited (TMD) will be showcasing a range of its most advanced products for the defence and national security market at DSEI 2015 – underlining the company’s now firmly established position as a world leader in the supply of specialised transmitters, amplifiers, microwave power modules (MPMs), high voltage power supplies and microwave tubes for radar, EW, communications, EMC HIRF testing, and other laboratory applications.

“DSEI is a key event for TMD, and something to really look forward to. It is the largest of its kind and thus allows us to connect with our global network of customers and representatives. Additionally we find more new contacts at DSEI than any other trade exhibition, and being part of the ADS UK Pavilion – with its excellent facilities – is a huge bonus,” said Dave Brown, TMD’s Managing Director.

“We are also looking forward to Defence Secretary Michael Fallon’s keynote speech. As a hi-tech design and manufacturing SME, we have been particularly interested in his remarks, reported recently in the media, expressing his support for SMEs and the need to stay ahead of the curve in terms of the supply chain within the defence industry,” continued Dave Brown.

On show: new Solid State MPM optimised for EW/ECM Systems – and TWT based MPMs for UAVs
Employing the latest advances in 0.25 µm GaN MMIC technology, the new PTS6900 solid state microwave power module (MPM) is a fine example of TMD’s proven expertise, not only as a progressive design and manufacturing SME, but also from its inherited knowledge gained from over 70 years at the forefront of RF power innovation.

Providing an excellent performance over the 2-6 GHz range, the ITAR free PTS6900 offers an output power of 150 W and adjustable 55 db gain – plus an instant start up, fast 1 µs mute time, and over 30,000 hours predicted MTBF.

The best of both worlds

In keeping with its philosophy of also continuing to produce state of the art TWT based MPMs operating at high frequency and high power, TMD’s new PTXM Series MPMs,weighing in at typically only 1.7 kg, offer arguably the highest power density obtainable in their class!

With their very compact and low weight design – and operating from 4.5 to 18 GHz with output powers up to 140 W – the units are ideal for UAVs.
Also on show at DSEI will be instrumentation TWT and solid state amplifiers for radar/EW simulation and training and for EMC HIRF testing.

New company video

Showcased on TMD’s stand at DSEI, and soon available on the company’s website, will be a new TMD company video, currently being filmed in partnership with Siemens(who supply our CAD software) and Skilstream. TMD Benefits from Sharing in Growth (SiG) – the Government initiative for Selected UK Aerospace Civil and Defence Manufacturing Suppliers

The SiG team at TMD – discussing key areas of efficiency improvement.

TMD has already moved on to the second phase of its SiG programme – the successful and innovative government funded initiative introduced to boost trade by raising the competitive capability of carefully appraised manufacturing suppliers in the UK aerospace industry.

Since the start of the first phase last year, SiG consultants have been engaging with TMD staff and carrying out analysis of all relevant aspects of the company’s business – focussing on not only better efficiency, but right through to increased ability to attract new customers and markets.

Said TMD’s Managing Director, Dave Brown:

“We were delighted to be chosen for the SiG initiative and are very pleased with the results of the SiG programme so far. We look forward to the next phase, and I am confident that the final outcome will enable us to become more competitive and further expand our business in all our market areas worldwide.”

Visiting ships and waterborne demos announced for DSEI 2021

DSEI 2021 will host five Royal Navy and international visiting ships when it takes place 14-17 September at London ExCeL.
As new strategic assets HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales continue their introduction to the naval fleet, DSEI 2021 will provide an opportunity for industry to engage with the Royal Navy as it moves beyond joint operations with its land, sea and cyber counterparts to an integrated force capable of achieving true multi-domain effects. With the backing of the Royal Navy, the DSEI Naval Zone will provide a critical opportunity for organisations of all sizes to meet with the customer and partners to collaborate on the next-generation capabilities required to deliver these effects at every level. From stealth and electronic warfare technologies to information and networking systems and unmanned capabilities, industry will have the chance to showcase innovation and solutions that will better enable the Royal Navy to defend the nation at home and abroad, across all domains from the seabed to space. Admiral Tony Radakin, First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff commented: “The Royal Navy continuously seeks to remain at the forefront of maritime defence technology, and events such as DSEI help to keep us there. I am delighted that the Royal Navy is once again playing a leading role in DSEI in 2021,” “Our ongoing success on operations around the world is a direct result of the strength and skill of the UK defence industry, as well as our international partners. DSEI gives us the ideal opportunity to bring all the key players together to discuss the latest innovations, developments and technological achievements. “In a world of constant competition, the conversations that we are able to have at DSEI are more important than ever. The Royal Navy remains committed to being at the forefront of technological development, maintaining our battle-winning edge through innovation. DSEI allows us to showcase the best of this technology in some of the ships where we will be using it. The developments enabled by DSEI have real and tangible benefits to all of us in the Royal Navy”. “It is hugely validating to have the support of the Royal Navy behind DSEI 2021. We believe that DSEI offers the single most valuable opportunity in the biennial defence trade show calendar to connect UK companies and their international counterparts with each other and their end customers across the land, sea and air domains,” Grant Burgham, DSEI Event Director, Clarion Defence & Security, commented. “We aim to foster business connections at every level and look forward to presenting a world-class industry response to the Royal Navy’s requirements as they look to support emerging operating concepts over the coming decade.” The Naval Zone at DSEI 2021 will once again host a range of Royal Navy and international warships on static display at the dockside, with waterborne demonstrations showcasing the latest capabilities on the River Thames.
