Vicon launches 4K H.265 camera line

Vicon Industries, Inc. has unveiled its V988 line of 4K cameras which offer Ultra HD video alongside reduced file sizes thanks to the use of the H.265 codec. Available in dome and bullet style, these new cameras feature a 3.6mm to 11mm motorised varifocal lens and IR illuminators, making them appropriate for use in a wide range of applications and lighting conditions.

According to the manufacturer, video captured by these cameras allows users to take advantage of the full display potential of 4K monitors. The new family of cameras is also said to provide detail without pixilation when zooming into recorded video which should provide a number of advantages for investigative purposes.

The V988 bullet and dome models both include true wide dynamic range, quad streaming, video content analysis to identify tampering, intrusion, motion detection and defog. In addition to this, othere key features include audio and alarm input/output as well as IP66/IK10-rated enclosures that provide vandal and water resistance to the units. Power over Ethernet eliminates the need for power cables, simplifying installation and reducing associated labour costs.

The manufacturer has opted for H.265 compression to reduce file sizes and conserve network bandwidth. H.265, or High Efficiency Video Coding, is a video coding standard that specifies how to decode video. It is the successor to Advanced Video Coding (AVC), also known as H.264 and was developed with the goal of providing twice the compression efficiency of the previous standard, or substantially improved video quality at the same bit rate.

We expect our new 4K dome and bullet models to be popular additions to our extensive camera line,” said Bret McGowan, Senior VP, Sales and Marketing at Vicon. “Customers expect quality and value from Vicon cameras, and the V988 line will deliver on that promise.”
