Zaun opens gates to Thames Water

Perimeter fencing expert Zaun has installed trackless bi-folding automatic speed gates at a Thames Water administration building.

The vehicle gates – which incorporate live-monitored safety edges, dual height safety photocells and manual-disengaging vertical infill bars – have replaced old rising arm barriers at Kemble Court, Thames Water’s Operations Management Centre in Reading.

Zaun also installed an adjacent pedestrian turnstile with a passage for bicycles and integrated the installation into existing fencing with 1.8m high HiSec fencing.

So pleased are Thames Water with the vehicle gate solution that they have specified it for one of their many sewage treatment plants, at East Hyde in Luton, that operates a combined heat and power (CHP) unit to generate the electricity the plant needs.

The CHP process ‘brews and chews’ sewage sludge to break down biodegradable material creating biomethane, or biogas, while methane from the sludge is burned to create heat, which in turn generates renewable electricity using a pre-treatment process called thermal hydrolysis.

Alastair Henman and Paul Painter founded Zaun in 1996 and remain the sole owners of this private British company, manufacturing in the UK. Continual investment in both personnel and equipment at our five acre site in the West Midlands has ensured that Zaun has the most modern machinery and production software. This reduces wastage and speeds up production times, giving us the edge of our competition.

Zaun offer a complete service from initial site survey through to manufacture. Both our standard and bespoke systems are high quality and are used by corporate, residential and local authority sectors.

Zaun’s products are manufactured in strategically located, purpose built factories in the UK. We also have key regional offices in France and Dubai that enable us to serve our customers across continental Europe and the Middle East. We distribute globally to a host of countries. All of our factories and processes are accredited to ISO9001:2008 standards.
