Chubb Fire & Security Limited has held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of a new high-performance workspace in Blackburn. The new building will house a total of 400 employees from Chubb and affiliates of Otis UK and Carrier Controls UK, and serve as a showcase for the capabilities of all three brands. Tracy Cordes, Managing Director of Chubb Fire & Security said, “With this new building, we have created a safer, smarter and more sustainable environment that will be a great place for our employees and their colleagues to work. The building is on track to achieve a BREEAM very good rating, so it will be amongst the top 25% of buildings for sustainability in the UK.” The development, which saw the demolition of three existing Chubb buildings on the Shadsworth Business Park, has resulted in a modern building for employees working in information technology, finance, supply chain and customer service. ATG Surface Guard at Rolling Stones concert

Two Rolling Stones concerts became the latest star-studded events to receive the highest level of protection against potential terror attacks. As more than 30,000 music fans descended on the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, on 2 June 2018, and a further 50,000 on Manchester three days later, to watch the legendary Mick Jagger and Keith Richards play, an innovative road block system was deployed to protect the events and its attendees from any security breaches. Surface Guard, the state-of-the-art security solution developed by ATG Access, the world’s leading innovator of road blockers, bollards and barriers, was installed at three locations around the Ricoh arena and at two locations around Old Trafford Stadium. This security solution has been designed in response to the recent surge in vehicle attacks across Europe. The Surface Guard barrier can withstand the impact of a 7,200kg vehicle travelling at 32kph and has been tested in accordance to the IWA 14 crash test standard. The barriers’ lightweight and modular design meant that it was deployed at both locations quickly and efficiently minimising disruption to event operation and the surrounding area. The system was then removed equally as quickly by Stadium TM – a specialist hostile vehicle mitigation barrier installer. Two Surface Guard Vehicle Access Points were also deployed around the Ricoh Arena to allow emergency vehicles to easily pass through the barriers in the event of an accident, injury or attack. Glenn Cooper, CEO at ATG Access, said: “Following the appalling attacks at the Bataclan Theatre in Paris and also at the Manchester Arena, event organisers have realised that they need to take additional steps in order to protect attendees. “The safety of fans is paramount, and it is great to see that event organisers are increasingly turning to our innovative Surface Guard solution as the answer. When it comes to pedestrian-permeable, temporary event security, there aren’t any other security solutions that can challenge Surface Guard’s effectiveness, nor its ability to be rapidly deployed. This makes it an excellent option for securing temporary events and concerts.” “High impact, low technological methods to disrupt and intimidate society have taken place in recent years and we must do all we can to mitigate such methods. The Surface Guard providing an ideal solution in temporary event security due to its deployable nature and how it fits into the event surroundings. Making communitites feel safe and secure in environments to enjoy world famous music artists is something we are very proud to do.” The Rolling Stones’ concerts weren’t the only major events secured over recent weeks, as Surface Guard was also chosen to protect the 40,000 attendees at this year’s BBC: The Biggest Weekend, Coventry 2018. Milestone Device Pack makes mobile safety smarter

Milestone Systems has released Device Pack 9.8 for partners and customers using Milestone XProtect video solutions. The bi-monthly device packs contain software updates for XProtect video management to support new hardware. Support for body-worn cameras Use of body-worn cameras enables wireless documentation of events not totally covered by fixed cameras. This can improve situational awareness for safety related incidents, but also increase safety for lone workers or document maintenance and construction work, since the camera sends a real-time video feed to the Milestone VMS giving instant alert on a situation. However, bandwidth restrictions can affect the quality of the transmitted video, limiting the investigational possibilities. Internal storage in the cameras can be a way to bypass this restriction as high-quality video can be recorded internally while lower quality video is transmitted in real time to the Milestone software. When the body-worn camera is later connected to a higher bandwidth network, the recording on the device will be transferred to the XProtect System and synchronized with the recording sent in real-time. The ONVIF profile G standard enables this and has now been implemented in XProtect in Device Pack 9.8 for selected models from the Milestone Camera Partners Edesix and Zepcam. Cyber security on Axis cameras increased Support for SRTP has been added for selected Axis cameras. Secure Real-Time Protocol (Secure RTP or SRTP) is an extension of the RTP protocol with an enhanced security mechanism. It provides encryption, authentication and integrity verification of data and messages passed through the RTP-based communication protocol. The possibility to use SRTP has been implemented across all Axis drivers for Milestone XProtect. The implementation utilizes the smart configuration abilities of the supported Axis cameras to make it easy to activate the extra level of security. Claranet acquires NotSoSecure enhancing security capabilities

Managed IT services provider Claranet has today announced the acquisition of ethical hacking training and penetration testing experts NotSoSecure. This latest move follows the acquisition last year of UK-based security firm, SEC-1, and the opening of a new Claranet Security Operations Centre in Portugal. These additions, combined with existing security capabilities in other Claranet countries, demonstrate the significant investment Claranet is putting into the development of a world-leading security services capability. NotSoSecure specialises in penetration testing for networks, web and mobile applications and is one of the largest suppliers of ethical hacking training to the globally-acclaimed Black Hat conferences, bringing a highly respected level of expertise to the cybersecurity industry. The company, established in Cambridge, UK, now has teams in San Francisco and India, and supports clients worldwide. NotSoSecure works with a range of internationally-renowned businesses and organisations, encompassing government agencies, FTSE 250 players and Fortune 500 companies. The company is focused on growing its US business and with Claranet’s support it intends to strengthen its presence in this market, as well as expanding its footprint in Australia and Asia. The company’s founders, Dan Haagman and Sumit (Sid) Siddharth, are remaining with the business to support these international growth ambitions and will continue to play leading roles as Claranet further develops its cybersecurity services in the coming years. Charles Nasser, Founder and CEO of Claranet, said: “Our acquisition of NotSoSecure has been made as part of our vision to further enhance the security services and expertise that we are able to offer to our customers, as well as gain access to new global markets such as the US and Australia. NotSoSecure has a superb track record and an illustrious worldwide reputation, encapsulated by the leading training role it plays at the Black Hat conferences, so we are confident that bringing the company into the Claranet Group will be hugely beneficial to the customers that we serve. “NotSoSecure’s passion for excellence and desire to be at the forefront of cybersecurity training and innovation were crucial factors in this latest acquisition. Their ambitious aims for growth are very much aligned with our own, so we are eagerly anticipating the impact they will have on the success of the wider Group,” he added. Commenting on the acquisition, Sumit (Sid) Siddharth, Co-Founder and CTO of NotSoSecure said: “Since we established the business, the risk of cyber-attacks for organisations around the world has grown exponentially. However, this has not been matched by an increase in training and knowledge and, as a result, there is now a severe global skills shortage in cyber-security. Our strong presence at Black Hat and other leading conferences means that we get a lot of business in the US through word-of-mouth alone, but I believe that we are just scratching the surface. With Claranet’s backing and experience of breaking into new territories, we are in a strong position to build our service portfolio and seize market share in this rapidly growing and evolving industry. “We are delighted to add our specialist, hands-on training and pen testing expertise to Claranet’s portfolio of services and look forward to extending our reach, so businesses can develop their capabilities and stay secure.”
