Gallagher acknowledged at 2021 CyberSecured Awards

Global security manufacturer, Gallagher, have been recognised in the 2021 CyberSecured Awards as a winner in the Access Control category for their MIFARE DESFire Key Migration Enhancement. The US-based CyberSecured Awards honour the outstanding product development achievements of manufacturers whose technology is considered particularly noteworthy in the transformation of cybersecurity. Designed in response to the growing sophistication of cyber-attacks upon credential security, Gallagher’s MIFARE DESFire Key Migration Enhancement helps organisations mitigate the risk of card-cloning or tampering, through improved management of security key lifecycles. This intelligent enhancement allows for cardholder credentials to be silently updated with newly defined site-specific keys for a secure and seamless cardholder experience. “We are thrilled to see our commitment to the cyber protection of physical security being recognised once again,” said Steve Bell, Chief Technology Officer at Gallagher. “A common weakness in access control systems is the credential technology, so it’s vital that we remain vigilant in communicating best practice recommendations to ensure our customers have the knowledge and tools necessary to keep their sites secure. “As security technology evolves, new weaknesses can emerge, therefore it’s important we stay ahead of the curve. This is what led us to develop the MIFARE DESFire Key Migration Enhancement, to give our customers an easy way to securely migrate access control keys across their site.” As part of their commitment to cybersecurity, Gallagher’s security solutions are fully authenticated and encrypted to meet global standards, including the FIPS-201 standards in the United States, Type 1A in Australia, and the UK Centre for Protection of National Infrastructure’s CAPSS (Cyber Assurance of Physical Security Systems) standard. In 2021 alone, Gallagher’s security solutions were recognised in six US award programs across cybersecurity, government security, threat/risk management, and homeland security.   Media contact Rebecca Morpeth Spayne, Editor, Security Portfolio Tel: +44 (0) 1622 823 922 Email: editor@securitybuyer.com

ImmuniWeb

ImmuniWeb and the UN ITU announce partnership

Web security company ImmuniWeb joins the list of cybersecurity providers, intergovernmental and international organisations that represent key partners of the ITU. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the United Nations (UN) specialised agency for information and communication technologies. Its cybersecurity programs and initiatives provide 193 Member States with actionable opportunities and powerful instruments to enhance their national cybersecurity capacity and reinforce cyber-resilience, to build sustainable, trusted and safe digital ecosystems for their citizens. In addition to shaping national cybersecurity strategies and setting foundational frameworks for the creation of national cyber-resilience capacities, the ITU is actively pursuing such socially important goals in cyberspace as child protection and empowering women in cybersecurity through building mentorship programs. The strategic partnership is a coordinated response to the skyrocketing cyber risks and amplified sophistication of cyber-attacks. The situation is exacerbated by the spiralling pandemic that forced many companies and organisations to decrease their cybersecurity budgets while working from home (WFH) introduced a broad spectrum of new attack vectors. In 2021, numerous healthcare institutions, providers of critical national infrastructure (CNI) and energy companies fell victims to devastating ransomware campaigns that paralysed their operations for weeks, leaving thousands of people without access to essential goods and services. The ITU’s Global Cybersecurity Index 2020 highlights the undelayable necessity to reinforce national commitments in cybersecurity, to develop efficient public-private partnerships, and to encourage inclusive cybersecurity education in all Member States. Through this partnership with the ITU, ImmuniWeb will provide the qualified ITU Member States with facilitated access to its award-winning ImmuniWeb AI Platform and expertise in over 18 domains of cybersecurity, data protection and compliance. ImmuniWeb will support national CIRTs through participation in cybersecurity drills and educational programs for public and private sectors organised or supported by the ITU. ImmuniWeb will also actively participate in multistakeholder cybersecurity exercises that are regularly conducted by the ITU. The collaboration, among other things, will help prevent ransomware campaigns and supply chain attacks. ImmuniWeb has already been actively supporting the most vulnerable enterprises and organisations around the globe for several years. The free ImmuniWeb Community Edition runs over 100,000 daily tests and is used by universities, health care institutions, SMEs and municipal governments from over 100 countries that are looking to test and protect their digital infrastructure. Ilia Kolochenko, CEO & Chief Architect at ImmuniWeb, said, “Global data protection and privacy landscape becomes gradually more and more complicated. In 2021, many countries including China, South Africa and Brazil have implemented comprehensive data protection laws at the national level but with an extraterritorial impact. Several state privacy laws were enacted in the US, making the convoluted patchwork of the US cybersecurity legislation even more complex and multifaceted.”   Media contact Rebecca Morpeth Spayne, Editor, Security Portfolio Tel: +44 (0) 1622 823 922 Email: editor@securitybuyer.com

Trend Micro

Trend Micro predicts cyber fightback in 2022

Trend Micro published the Trend Micro Security Predictions for 2022: Toward a New Momentum that states that organisations in the region will emerge more alert and better prepared in 2022 thanks to a comprehensive, proactive, cloud-first approach for mitigating cyber risks. Research, foresight, and automation are critical for organisations to manage risk and secure their workforce. Globally, Trend Micro solutions has detected and blocked nearly 40 billion email threats, malicious files, and malicious URLs for customers in the first half of 2021 alone, which is a 47% increase from the year prior. Trend Micro researchers predict that threat actors in 2022 will focus on ransomware attacks on cloud and datacentre workloads and exposed services to take advantage of the large number of employees continuing to work remotely. Vulnerabilities will be weaponised in record time and chained with privilege escalation bugs to drive successful campaigns, according to the report. “Organisations in the region have faced numerous challenges in the past two years in order to keep their operations running and staying protected at all stages,” said Dr. Moataz Bin Ali, Managing Director and VP, MENA for Trend Micro. “Companies and security teams have successfully implemented new security strategies and maintained a strong footing against the evolving threat landscape, according to our Trend Micro predictions report for 2022. This report reflects our continued commitment to the region as these insights not only give businesses a glimpse at modern threats, but also help them make informed decisions that will allow them to stay vigilant and effectively protect their digital assets across layers as the threat landscape evolves in the future.” IoT systems, global supply chains, cloud environments, and DevOps functions will be in the crosshairs. More sophisticated commodity malware strains will be aimed at SMBs. However, Trend Micro predicts that many organisations will be ready for the challenge as they build upon their current security strategy and implement improvements to proactively mitigate these emerging risks via: Stringent server hardening and application control policies to tackle ransomware Risk-based patching and a high-alert focus on spotting security gaps Enhanced baseline protection among cloud centric SMBs Network monitoring for greater visibility into IoT environments Zero Trust principles to secure international supply chains Cloud security focused on DevOps risk and industry best practices Extended detection and response (XDR) to identify attacks across entire networks Media contact Rebecca Morpeth Spayne, Editor, Security Portfolio Tel: +44 (0) 1622 823 922 Email: editor@securitybuyer.com
