OPTEX has published a new whitepaper on tunnel safety, providing railway and transport infrastructure security managers and operators with best practice guidance and expertise on keeping tunnels secure, minimising human risk and protecting critical assets and economies.
As well as assessing the vital role of tunnels in transport infrastructure across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), the whitepaper examines the complex and varied security challenges of tunnel operations, from trespassing and vandalism to the challenges of legacy surveillance systems.
The paper also explores trends in technological advances, and how the latest sensing and detection solutions, such as LiDAR, are playing a leading role in transforming tunnel safety and underground security strategies.
“Tunnels are vital to EMEA’s transport and economic infrastructure, but ensuring they remain secure is becoming increasingly complex,” says Masaya Kida, Managing Director of OPTEX EMEA. “New and future security technologies will need to continue adapting as tunnel use evolves and grows. Each tunnel has its own specific characteristics and requirements, and so operators should consider using a combination of integrated technologies that are fit for purpose. Ultimately, as new technologies continue to develop and advance, this can only help to improve safety and security along the tracks and tunnels of EMEA’s growing rail and underground networks.”
