Women’s Security Society explores how safe our data is

The Women’s Security Society (WSS) is kicking off it’s 2015 calendar of events with a seminar examining one of the key security issues to come out of 2014 – How safe is our data?

As with all WSS events, the line-up of speakers is first rate and each presentation will explore the pertinent issues of data privacy and assurance.

Attendees can expect to hear from:

• Simon McDougall, MD at Promontory, speaking on Data Breaches: Their investigation and management
• Suzanne Rodway, Head of Privacy at RBS, speaking on Data Privacy: How to get the board on board
• Stewart Room, Partner at PwC, looking at how recent case law has impacted EU privacy regulations.

We spoke to Suzanne Rodway, who explained that her presentation will take a look at practical steps to help you get sponsorship from your board for privacy initiatives. Whilst the focus is on privacy, the steps described would apply equally to similar initiatives such as cyber activities. Suzanne’s unconventional approach will be to use the characters from Star Wars to guide the audience through the process and hopefully leave guests with some memorable take away points they can use within their own organisations.

Explaining what she was keen to speak at this event, Rodway said, “I have represented privacy on the Board of the WSS since it began and I firmly believe in the organisation’s aims. Having worked in a number of organisations across a variety of sectors I have had to use a variety of techniques to obtain support for my privacy initiatives. I wanted to share my experiences as I have benefited from listening to other in-house speakers share their war stories and I wanted to give something back myself. It’s important to me to show that women can be leaders in the privacy field.”

Set for Thursday 29th January 2015, registration to the comprehensive event opens at 5.30pm at the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development, One Exchange Square, London.
