BauWatch launches rapid, solar-powered solution

BauWatch introduces its newest innovation, designed to tackle the rising tide of theft and vandalism – The BauWatch Scout. This cutting-edge solar-powered security camera has rapid deployment capabilities, showcasing the ability to shore up defences on vulnerable outside locations, such as construction sites, retail forecourts, vacant properties and live event spaces, within a 48-hour timeframe.

The release of the BauWatch Scout comes on the heels of a concerning upward trend in construction site theft, with two-thirds of workers surveyed in BauWatch’s “Unseen Threats” report, confirming an uptick in theft since 2023. Retailers, meanwhile, are confronting a surge in shoplifting incidents that directly impact their profitability and operational efficiencies.

The BauWatch Scout aims to address this critical market need. With its state-of-the-art 360° motion detection system and video verification technology, it stands out for its precision in identifying threats, particularly at night when sites are most exposed. It features an integrated LED lighting system that makes it visible in low light, acting as a significant deterrent to potential intruders. In the event of a perimeter breach or trespassing attempt, BauWatch’s central control centre is instantaneously alerted. Following an assessment of the situation, the centre team can trigger an alarm and alert the police or security patrols if necessary.

Designed to be modular and easy to relocate, the Scout exemplifies flexibility in security systems – providing users with ease when moving from one high-risk locale to another. This portability supported by robust functionality places the BauWatch Scout among the market’s leading mobile security solutions.

Alexis Potter, Managing Director of BauWatch UK, said: “Earlier this year, we surveyed people working across commercial projects, real estate, energy, infrastructure, and homebuilding projects. With 7 in 10 people admitting to seeing theft at work, the key takeaway is that no site or sector is safe from criminals, so having security in place is imperative.”

“Amid the wave of shoplifting we’ve seen recently, retailers also need an effective CCTV solution that they can roll out quickly. Scout’s modular design allows effortless relocation, making it the perfect companion for environments that demand adaptability. Most of these exposed locations have guards in place, but manpower can only get you so far –technology can better detect unwelcome activity.”

Greg Miles, Project Liaison Manager at Canadian & Portland added, “The Scout system worked perfectly during a recent break-in and the BauWatch team, both responders and remote crew, did a great job directing and liaising with the police to ensure the intruders were caught. I can’t recommend BauWatch and the new system more highly. It has saved us a great deal of stress, time, and expense.”
