BSIA connected products and cyber security seminar

One week left to register for connected products and cyber security seminar

The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) is encouraging industry practitioners and security buyers to register for their free place at its upcoming Connected Products and Cyber Security Seminar.

The free-to-attend event is taking place at the Greswolde Arms, Knowle, Solihull B93 0LL on Thursday 2nd November and is open to security and fire buyers and installers, or indeed anybody from either industry with an interest in improving their business’ cyber security and data protection policies.

Confirmed speakers for the event include:

  • Sergeant Hinesh Mehta – West Midlands Police Lead on Cyber Crime. Hinesh has been a Police Officer for over 14 years and has been heavily involved with shaping force response to cybercrime, currently holding the portfolio for the ‘Protect’ strand of cybercrime. With a wealth of experience, he is currently trying to increase the skill set of the force and is working to prevent organisations from becoming victims of cybercrime. His presentation will provide a local perspective on cybercrime and cyber security.
  • Stephen Lampett – BSIA Technical Services Manager and Cyber Security Product Assurance Group Lead. With over 20 years’ security experience, Stephen’s background includes several roles at ADT Fire and Security in various different areas of electronic fire and security. Stephen’s presentation will cover the BSIA’s Cyber Security Product Assurance Group (CySPAG), the work that the group is currently undertaking and its expected outputs.
  • Jack Wilson – Ethical Hacking Consultant at the Scottish Business Resilience Centre. Jack’s focus is primarily on IT infrastructure, security assessments and public speaking engagements to raise awareness of how to stay safe online. Jack has researched into various areas of information security, including: Windows 10 and OS X privacy, Microsoft Office malware, intrusion detection systems, reverse engineering, web application testing and iOS VPN security. His presentation will cover the current and future threats of cybercrime.
  • Laura Irvine – Partner and Solicitor Advocate, BTO Solicitors LLP. Laura is a specialist in data protection, cyber security and information law. She has previously worked as a prosecutor and for the UK government. She now works with clients who find themselves involved with data and information issues and the ICO. She was co-counsel in relation to the first – and to date – only, successful appeal against an ICO fine for a breach of the Data Protection Act 1998, when Scottish Borders Council had their £250,000 fine returned to them. She currently provides organisations across all sectors with pragmatic and practical GDPR compliance advice. Her presentation will cover the legal basics of the GDPR, consent and the other legal bases for processing, privacy notices and security requirements necessary to avoid ICO fines.

Delegates will also benefit from opportunities to visit exhibits from CSL Group, Global QA Consultants, Honeywell Security and Fire, Texecom and WebWayOne.

Registration for the event will be open from 9.00am, with presentations starting at 9.45am and the event expected to finish at around 1.30pm. A full programme and online booking forms for both delegates and exhibitors are available from the BSIA’s website: https://www.bsia.co.uk/events.aspx
